In 1868, the first school opened in Glenview and taught grades one through eight. In 1916, the Glenbrook School District was formed and Glenview became its own district; it remains an all-school district today. The townsite of Glenview was annexed into Chicago on February 15, 1937; however, residents continued to refer to themselves as "Glenville" until that day. On November 10, 1957, Mayor Richard J burns ordered all public notices be discontinued in favor of using only township titles for official purposes starting with that year's municipal elections because he felt this would help promote township unity and prevent fraud and corruption within those institutions

Pritchard, who named it for their home, Glenview Place. The first post office was opened in 1876, and the first store was built in 1879. In 1886, Glenview became a village and had its own government. The last postmaster served from 1966 to 1974. In 1920, Glenview merged with neighboring village of Mount Prospect to form a new municipality which still exists today as part of Cook County.
