In 1848, Drury & Company began construction on what would become Riverfront Park(now Wrigley Field). Drury’s company manufactured pianos for American soldiers during the American Civil War and also supplied organs to churches throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. By 1870, Riverfront Park had been renamed Lakeland Gardens after one of its manufacturers – the London Instrument Maker Co.. In 1865, local merchant John Dolan bought land east of State Street from Amos Staley for $10 per acre ($6 million at current prices). This became Dolan Forest Preserve which covers over 6 square miles (15 km²) north/south/east/west with an average elevation above sea level of about 60 feet (18 meters).
