Glenview, Illinois is a small town located in the far north-central section of the United States. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of Cook County. According to the Chicago Tribune, Glenview has been called "the Athens of North America" because of its cultural and educational opportunities. The first settler in what became Glenview was John Fitch who arrived in 1836 and named his new settlement for his home state of Ohio, though he never set foot there. Fitch's son-in-law, James Haslam, settled nearby in 1839 and built the first schoolhouse here. In 1847, Nathaniel Morton donated land to build a Methodist church which served as the town's first courthouse. The town had no public baths until 1860 when a well was dug and later enlarged for use by residents. In 1865–67, two miles east of town on State Route 78 (now US 6) an Ikepope cotton gin operated by Andrew Dixon generated large profits that helped finance local infrastructure projects such as churches and schools. Glenview prospered through its agricultural industry into the early 20th century thanks to its fertile soil and strategic location near major roads linking northern Illinois with Indiana and Ohio; however, during World War I Glenview suffered significant damage from aerial bombing raids caused by American forces led by General George Smedley Butler During World War II much of GlenVIEW destroyed by Japanese air raids including most buildings on Elmwood Avenue where many lives were lost among other bombings around this time also including Oak Park which took place only 8 blocks away

Glenview is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 26,811 at the 2010 census. It is the principal city of the Glenview–Haviland Micropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of 92,977 as of 2014. The first settlement in what is now Glenview was made by Drury and his men on May 20, 1837 when they built a cabin on the east side of Chicago River. The town began to grow rapidly due to its strategic location near transportation hubs and its easy access to markets such as Chicago and Rockford. By 1853, Glenview had a sawmill and gristmill and boasted three churches: First Baptist (founded in 1851), Methodist (founded in 1857), and Congregational (founded in 1865). In 1861-1862 two more churches were built: Presbyterian (founded in 1862) and Church of Christ ( founded in 1863). In 1871 Union Pacific Railroad completed its line from Galena through Aurora toGlenview; this created an immediate boom for the town with various businesses opening up including grocery stores, hotels/motels, banks/trusts etc. Over time new neighborhoods have been developed within the limits of downtown including eastside Village near Wacker Drive / Westwood Avenue NW., westside Highlands off Cicero Avenue / Keystone Highway NW., southwest Side at Eisenhower Ave./NW., Galleria area around DeKalb Road SE., northwest Side at Clark Road NE
Glenview was originally a small town in Cook County, Illinois, about 20 miles west of Chicago. It was founded in 1836 by John A. Glen and his wife Sarah. The Glen family built a log cabin on the present-day site of Glenview Cemetery. In 1852, the first white settlers arrived in what is now Glenview from Indiana. They named the town after their father, Hugh Glenn (1784-1853). After several generations of farming and logging activity, the local economy declined during the Great Depression of the 1930s and 1940s. In 1951, when Cook County was created, Glenview became one of its first villages. The village had a population of approximately 1,500 people at its peak in 1960; however it has declined since then because of increasing suburbanization and travel to larger cities outside of Cook County. The Glenview Village Green is still used for public events today.
