Airmen stationed at De Witt Air Station (now Wright-Patterson Air Force Base) referred to Glendale Heights as "the quiet enclave" during World War II because it was one of only two communities within 15 miles of the air base without any active combat operations or military activity taking place. However, much like many other American cities during that time period,Glendale Heights experienced rapid growth following World War II due to post-war demand for housing and businesses created by war veterans and their families. In 1950, when Chicago annexed Glendale Heights into its city limits, much of this postwar growth still continued with no major changes to suburban homeowner patterns or demographics – until 1955 when things began changing dramatically with the opening of newly built downtown Chicago's poorly funded but rapidly growing streetcar system which directly impacted suburbs such as Glendale Heights on Long Island Road just north of Midtown Dragoons Casino & Racetrack

The first school opened its doors to students on December 1st of that year. In 1952 the newly founded Glendale Heights High School became Glendale Heights’ only high school and remains so to this present day.
