Glendale Heights is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,722 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first people to live in Glendale Heights were the Potawatomi Indians who lived on the banks of the Fox River and hunted game near present day Old Glendale Road and Elm Street. In 1824, a group of proctors from Clinton County arrived in what is now Glendale Heights and began to operation a school and farm. By 1830, there were about twenty settlers living in what is now Glendale Heights. In 1834, John Quincy Adams became President of the United States and announced his intention to move the seat of government from Springfield to Washington D.C.. The Proctors decided that they would not be able to keep up withAdams' needs as they had no money or land to offer him. They disbanded and returned home after only one year in Washington D.C.. In 1835, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of America and moved his residence from Springfield to Chicago so he could be closer to his political action committee members. During this time period many small towns throughout Illinois were moving away due to low economic opportunities caused by American Civil War expenses which were increasing rapidly with each passing season (). A group of proctors from Clinton County traveled back down Ohio Street (now Elm) towards Glendale Hills after hearing about this new development when they stopped at an inn on their way back east in 1839 while en route westward via Palmyra Bridge over the Fox River on horseback (). After dining at an outdoor café located at present day Wilson Park (on West Side Drive), they decided that this must be where they should settle since it offered prospects for good farming soil (), close access to water resources (), easy transportation (), polite people (), good schools (), etc., all things that had been missing in their original choice for site (). They named their settlement "Glendale Heights" after its location within sight of Clinton House (the White House then located just east of State Street). After another year passed without any further developments occurring, John Quincy Adams again announced his intent to move the seat of government westward and this time Congress obliged by creating legislation authorizing him To do so (). On December 15th 1840 - two days before Christmas - George Washington moved into Executive Mansion #4 located just south side State Street between Dearborn Avenue & Lake Michigan Boulevard/Olden Rd./Dixon Ave./Prairie Grist Mill Road/Niles Rd./Hancock Ave./McKay Ave.) – becoming America’s first president outside Of Philadelphia! Glendale Heights, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 6,561 at the 2010 census. The town is located in the northwest corner of Cook County and is bordered by the towns of Arlington Heights to the east, Elgin to the north, and River Grove to the west. It lies on a bend in the Chicago River. The first settler in Glendale Heights was Amos Prentice who arrived in 1836. By 1840, there were six families living in Glendale Heights. In 1847-48, John Ralston erected a log cabin on what is now State Road 7 near present day Elmhurst Road. Mr. Ralston was a fur trader from Maine and had come down river via steamboat from Ottawa, Canada for business reasons only to find that flooding on his voyages had destroyed all his goods along with many other buildings at Lower Michigan City (now Milwaukee). He built this cabin as an "exile" home for himself and his family until he could find new land elsewhere. In 1850-51 two more families moved into Glendale Heights from Rockford: David Price and His Wife Priscilla Price; Isaac Weller;ozo Morse; Chauncey Ahern; Charles Haggerty Jr.; Daniel Gartzman (Gartzman’s father); Abram Rosenberg (Rosenberg’s father). All these pioneers started out as farmers but soon began buying land for themselves and their families including some of today’s most well-known residents such as Dr.. Abraham Lincoln who lived next door to Weller from 1853 until he was elected President in 1860 then moving away to Springfield IL where he served four terms before dying at age 74 years old on April 12th 1865 just one year after being elected Ulysses S Grant’s running mate! Families continued moving into Glendale Heights over time making it one of the most rapidly growing communities within Cook County during that time period giving rise to local businesses such as J & W Bakery which still operates today under its original name “The Old Mill” while others like Sears Roebuck converted their stores into department stores over time becoming familiar landmarks across Cook County today like Marshall Field’s & Co., Ford Motor Company etc... By 1870 there were 10 families living in Glendale Heights with nearly 350 people employed within its various industries including bakery/cake factory (owned by Mrs.), mercantile store (owned by grocer/baker), hotel/motel (owned by hotelier), physician office(self-employed) etc... . In 1871 Josephine Baker became world famous when she starred opposite Lillian Gish stars opposite Rudolph Valentino in " Birth of a Nation" premiering Jan 21st 1889 at Aeolian Hall New York City followed three weeks later by another play production "A Thousand Miles From Home" also premiering Jan 21st 89 at Aeolian Hall New York City both plays received critical acclaim becoming box office successes helping start America's movie industry! This rapid growth led directly to Stout Rubber Works being founded nearby soon afterwards! Hyde Park Armory was completed nearby later that same year thanks largely to donations offered by Mayor Richard Mottz! Today much of what used to be downtown Glendale heights has been replaced with mixed uses retail /office development while some notable surviving properties include Mrs.'s Bakery once again operational serving up delicious breakfast pastries daily except Sunday morning when they are closed due TO FEES!!!
