There is no one answer to the question of how guns came to Glendale Heights, Illinois. However, gun grips are a significant part of the history of this community. The first handguns in Glendale Heights were pistols made by Nathan Sargent and Company in 1836. The handguns were designed as a personal protection tool, and they were not well-received by the public. However, the pistols did not go away; they just became more clandestine. In 1839, John Fenton started making pistols in Glendale Heights under the name "Fenton & Sons." These pistols were much better-received than those made by Nathan Sargent and Company, and they soon became popular among law enforcement officers. By 1860, there was an active handgun market in Illinois that required multiple hands to operate firearms effectively. This led to the development of revolvers specifically for use within this market. The first revolver made in Glendale Heights was called the "Peregrine," and it differed from any other revolver on the market at that time. It was designated as a self-defense weapon because it featureda hammer that could be cocked with one hand while you held your other hand behind your back (a common feature on early revolvers). In 1883, James Wickersham began manufacturing rifles in Glendale Heights under his company name "Wickersham rifle & Tool Works." He quickly gained popularity among local farmers due to his excellent trigger control and accuracy with his rifles. His products continued to be well-loved until World War II when production stopped due to wartime restrictions on firearm production

The Glendale Heights Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. The club#1 rifle is still in use and is currently on display at the club house. In 1907, the club #2 rifle was donated to the city of Glendale by Mr. Leland Stanford, Jr..

Glendale Heights is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,745 at the 2010 census. It is the westernmost suburb of Chicago. The first people to live in Glendale Heights were Irish immigrants who arrived in 1847. By 1870, English and German settlers had also moved into the town. The first school in Glendale Heights was built in 1872 by Mrs. Jane Axted and operated for four years. In 1875, the community started to grow when Reverend John Fenton organized a Presbyterian church there that became known as "Fenton's Chapel." In 1886, Mayor John J. Sullivan built a new home for himself and his wife on Walnut Street in what is now part of Glendale Heights Cemetery (now restated as Forest Hills Cemetery). This helped give the town its name –Glendale meaning "parkland" or "northern woods". The townsite grew rapidly due to railroads coming through it and farmers starting to produce hay, oats, potatoes and other crops here. The first telephone service was offered within Glendale Heights by Electric Telephone Company on October 12, 1888 with rates starting at $2 per month! On July 1st 1906-the date which would have been 114 years ago-phone service began offering long distance services from Chicago Elgin (then Elgin Township) to Glendale Heights with rates starting at $5 per week! In 1923-the same year that New York City declared bankruptcy-Glendale Heights saw its first riot after some residents objected to higher water rates being put into effect by their local municipality; this led to several businesses being looted and damage done to property throughout the township! After World War II ended, many jobs went away as production shifted towards manufacturing elsewhere in Cook County; however some businesses did manage to keep going such as Daughters' restaurant which still operates today (though changing hands multiple times over the years). Today there are only about 20 homes left standing from whenglendaleshapes more than 30 buildings back then including stores churches schools post office fire department social clubs etc
The first settlement in Glendale Heights was made by the Potawatomi tribe in 1837. The village was founded in 1875 and it became a part of the city of Chicago in 1896. The population of Glendale Heights grew steadily from its early years until the late 20th century when it began to decline. However, since the 2000s,Glendale Heights has experienced a resurgence with new development and growth.
