That year, a group of men from Glendale Heights formed the Chicago Gun Club and began wearing pistols on their shirts. The club soon became popular amongglendale Heights residents and began selling its own patchwork of firearms, including handguns and shotguns. In 1916, the Chicago Gun Club merged with another gun club inGlendale Heights to form the American Firearms Association (AFA). The AFA continued to sell firearms throughout the 1920s and 1930s, but it was not until World War II that it became an influential national organization. At that time, the AFA focused on helping Americans purchase arms for war against Nazi Germany. By 1945, however, the AFA had disbanded and most of its members had moved away from Glendale Heights.
Glendale Heights, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois. It was founded in 1887 by Benton Glendale and his wife Emma. The population was 506 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the English word "glen" meaning "a wooded valley." The village of Glendale Heights was organized on February 9, 1908. It consolidated with the town of Arlington Heights on April 1, 1912. On January 1, 1914, Glendale Heights merged with nearby Streamwood to form the new city of Chicago. In 1970, when Chicago annexed all of Cook County except for a small slice east of its border, Glendale Heights became one of the towns in that newly created municipality. Today, Glendale Heights is an excellent place to live because it has many amenities such as a well-maintained golf course and tennis courts; great schools; and low crime rates. Glendale Heights is a village in the U.S. state of Illinois, located on the east side of Chicago. The population was 7,651 at the 2010 census. On February 1st 1924 Glendale Heights became one of 29 municipalities (later counties) in Cook County, Illinois under Mayor John Larkin's new " Municipal powers act". The act gave city officials greater power than county officials with respect to such things as zoning regulations and firefighting efforts within city boundaries The era of suburbia began when Glendale Heights annexed Maywood in 1925; this annexation created what would become known as "the Maywood community" which still exists today outside of Glendale Heights proper but within its own municipal borders In 1927 Grosse Pointe Park was annexed into Glendale Heights making it possible for people living there even if they didn't live in Glendale or any other municipality In 1938 Glendale Heights voters passed a resolution supporting prohibition which later helped lead to prohibition becoming law nationwide
