The Glen Ellyn Shooting Protection Society (GELS) was formed in 1984, to help protect citizens of Glen Ellyn from gunfire. GELS is a not-for-profit organization that provides shooting safety education and training for the public. The society has initiated many changes in the way firearms are handled in the city, such as creating a safe zone around city hall, hosting monthly gun shows and publications on firearm safety topics, and working with local law enforcement to create safer neighborhoods. In 1985, GELS partnered with the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) to develop a statewide program called “Firearm Safety Night”. This event featured talks by experts on how to safely use firearms during night time scenarios. In 1996, GELS partnered with the Illinois Law Enforcement Firearms Coalition (ILEFC) to create “Safe Streets Week” which aimed to reduce crime in Glen Ellyn by teaching citizens how to safely handle firearms. Today, GELS continues its work regarding firearm safety and education within the city of Glen Ellyn. Our society offers handgun training programs for residents of all ages; publishes an annual newsletter on firearm safety topics; hosts monthly gun shows; and collaborates with local law enforcement officials in order to create more safe communities across Illinois.

The Glen Ellyn Rifle and Pistol Club has a long history of hunting, shooting and protection. In 1903, the club began meeting in a small room on the first floor of the local grocery store. The first president was Dr. Charles Hapgood, who also served as treasurer and secretary. The club purchased its current building in 1906 and held their first Silver Cup tournament there that year. In 1911, the club moved to its present location on Prospect Street in Glen Ellyn proper. That same year, they became members of the Illinois Rifle Association (IRA). In 1915 they won their second Silver Cup tournament at their new location with a victory over neighboring town Oak Park-Mayfield by three shots to one. They continue to win tournaments here ever since! The club has also hosted several NRA events such as skeet, trap and air rifle matches. They currently have four pistols for sale - two Remington 870s and two Ruger LCRs - all of which are Colt REP pistols with stainless steel barrels!
Glen Ellyn is a city located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County and home to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Glen Ellyn was founded in 1847 by John Davenport and his family as a small farming community on the east side of what is now Glen Ellyn Road. In 1865, Davenport donated land for the present day university campus. After years of growth and development, Glen Ellyn became an industrial center during World War II with its production of munitions and other military products. The city experienced economic decline in the 1970s and 1980s but has since regained some lost ground; in 2000, it had a GDP per capita of $50,339. The downtown area includes many buildings from earlier days such as the original Methodist Church (1863), Grain Elevator (1924), Telephone exchange building (1928), Bank (1936), post office (1945) and fire station (1985). There are also several recent additions including: Glendale mall which opened in 1998; Parkview Village shopping center whichopened in 2001; and River Oaks Golf Clubwhich opened in 2003.

This act banned handguns except for law enforcement and military use, required universal registration of all firearms, and established safety regulations for gun owners. The Gun Control Act also created the National Firearms Act of 1934 which placed restrictions on many types of firearm including rifles and shotguns. Three years later, in 1938, another bill was passed which amended the National Firearms Act to allow handgun sales to those over 21 years old who had a valid license from a state or federal government agency. This amendment allowed civilians to purchase handguns without having to go through an application process and observe specific rules regarding trigger control, magazine capacity, and bore size. This amendment also increased gunownership rates as more people became comfortable with owning handguns. In response to this increase in gun ownership, crime rates began to decrease beginning in the early 1960s while they continued to slowly decline throughout most of the 1970s until they reached their current low point during the late 1990s (Cisneros et al., 2002). However, since then there has been an uptick in crime rates (Walsh & Smith 2000), making it important for shooters to maintain shooting protection history so that they can identify any potential threats before they happen (Kuhlman et al., 2006). Gunshot noise is one type of noise that can be heard after a gunshot is fired (Mueller-Fischer et al., 2001). Shooting protection history should be kept track of any changes in sound levels following gunshots so that shooters can identify any potential dangers before these events occur. For example, if gunfire is becoming louder or harder to hear after an event such as combatting violence or hunting down prey, then it may be safe for shooters to begin wearing hearing protectors accordingly(Drewry & Muller 1992). Additionally, helmets may help reduce exposureto potentially harmful debris after gunshots are fired(Murphy 1995)
In the early 1800s, firearms were still being used in hunting and militia drills. The first organized shooting events were held at a local arsenal in 1811. In 1836, the UK introduced regulations that required all firearms to be registered with the police. This led to some people creating safety devices for their guns such as triggers lockers and cocking screens. Glen Ellyn is a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is located 15 miles (24 km) west of the city on the shores of Lake Michigan. The community was founded in 1892 by John F. Roche and his wife, Sarah Roche. The name "Glen Ellyn" is derived from two words, "Gleann" meaning "plain" and "Elyn" meaning "farm". The community's nucleus was a small village known as Newtown which had been established in 1872 by Irish immigrants who came to the area to work on land owned by the original settlers. The population of Newtown declined in the early years of the 20th century as agriculture became more important in this part of Cook County. In 1915, however, new residents moved into Newtown and began to build homes around Gleann Eilidh - Loch Corgie - Glengarry Park Lots. This development led to the nickname for Glen Ellyn – “The Village at Lake Michigan” because so many people were living here within easy reach of what was then one of Chicago’s most popular tourist destinations—the lakefront. In 1922, when Glen Ellyn opened its first post office, it was one of only a handful in Cook County that did not share space with either Chicago or Evanston locales. That same year saw another milestone when Gleann Eilidh became home to Illinois State Fairgrounds – one of only five fairgrounds in Cook County that never closed during World War II due to wartime shortages in essential supplies such as food and labor! Today, Glen Ellyn remains an integral part of Chicagoland history – hosting events ranging from large-scale civic gatherings such as summer festivals to smaller events commemorating special moments or individuals associated with the town’s history like Mrs. John Roche or Mr. George Roche III., both natives who are buried here at Glasnevin Cemetery!
