It is located on the border of Cook and DuPage counties. The first settler in what is now Glen Ellyn was John Fiske who arrived in 1834. Other early settlers included Alexander McMorris (1835), James Bigham (1838), George Weldon (1841), and Josiah Morse (1845). In 1849, another group of pioneers arrived and named their new settlement "Glencoe." At that time, it extended only along the north side of Chicago Road to just east of present-day Elmhurst High School. In 1857, two brothers by the name of Hoadley bought land around present day Glen Ellyn for $10 per acre from John Drexel III. They began to develop it into a small village with a school and farms which they sold off over time to make money for themselves and help support their families. By 1870, Hoadley had built a large gristmill which became one of the largest in Illinois; also known as "Hoadleys Mill". The Village continued to grow as people came to live there full-time or part-time; until it reached its peak in 1920 when there were over 30 residents living there permanently! During World War II, several thousand Americans lived in Glen Ellyn during production at nearby Phelps Dodge plant. After 1945 many people left because of competition from suburban development near by. However since then many locals have returned including several mayors/council members over the years! Today most residents are busy with jobs either inside or outside the community while some still enjoy spending quality time outdoors playing golfing or walking their dogs!

In 1836, entrepreneur Abraham Lincoln offered to buy all the land in Glen Ellyn if its citizens would support him during his run for president. They did and he became their first mayor and then president when he won in 1844. Lincoln's term as mayor coincided with some important changes that took place in America including slavery being abolished throughout most of Great Britain but not yet in America where it continued until 1865; free black Americans beginning to arrive starting around this time; and new transportation methods becoming available such as steamboats which made travel between cities much easier than before
Glen Ellyn was a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States before it became the city of Chicago. It is now part of the city of Chicago. The town was founded by farmers in 1848 and grew rapidly due to its location on the banks of the White River. In 1872, Glen Ellyn was made a city and continued to grow until it had over 60,000 residents by 1910.
