Glen Ellyn, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the county seat of Cook County. The population was 61,812 at the 2010 census. It lies in the Chicago metropolitan area, and is one of the most populous cities in that region. Glen Ellyn was founded as a post office on April 20, 1847 by James Hennepin and his family. The town grew rapidly due to its location near Lake Michigan and its access to transportation including railroads and canals. In 1868, Glen Ellyn became an incorporated city with a population of 507 people. By 1920, it had grown to 1,815 residents[2] and by 1930 it had reached 2,691 residents[3]. However, during World War II much of Glen Ellyn's growth stopped as production within the city shifted towards munitions manufacturing in suburban factories outside of town.[4] After 1945 much of Glencullen returned to residential use as new development moved into what had been agricultural areas east of town line (now known as Northbrook). In 1960 Glencullen was named "the City That Took Over" by then-Mayor Richard M. Daley for having outgrown its original boundaries while other nearby towns such as Skokie continued growing slowly but surely.[5] This rapid expansion led to problems from zoning laws which were not updated since they were designed when towns were about 25% smaller than they are now; this led toGlencullen becoming one of several larger Illinois cities which experienced rapid growth without annexation orurbuilding consent from their surrounding communities until after 1980 when developers began buying up adjacent villages in order to build high-density housing developments there instead – often only offering community benefits like free parking or special tax breaks if they agreed not to annex any neighboring villages again once they completed construction within their own Town limits (a process known as " Partial annexation ", see below). There are a number of different types and designs of gun swivels. One type is called a "gun-latch", while another is a "firearm-latch". There are also variations on the design, including those that use screwing mechanisms. The first type, the gun-latch, was developed in the early 1800s by Dr. Johann Georg Weisbach. It consisted of two metal plates that fit together to form an adjustable hinge.
