Glen Ellyn, Illinois is a town located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 20,744 at the 2010 census. It is home to two universities, Northwestern University and DePaul University. The towns namesake, General George Washington's burial ground and historical site, is also located in Glen Ellyn. Glen Ellyn was founded on October 15, 1837 by John Glover for his own farming purposes and as a location for manufacturing goods for other farmers in the area. By 1851 it had become an important hub for railroads in central Illinois due to its location near Carbondale and Peoria. In 1865 it became a city with a population of 508 people when it merged with Carbondale into that city's first incorporated block district. The gun industry played an important role in Glen Ellyn's growth as a center of commerce during this time period as guns were used both offensively and defensively to protect settlements from Native Americans and raiders alike. Gunmakers such as Browning & Co., Colt & Company, Remington Arms Company, Savage Arms Company etc., were some of the earliest businesses to open up in Glen Ellyn and continue operations until the late 1800s. One of the most famous rifles manufactured here was Springfield Armory's Model 1861 rifle which saw service with both Union forces during the American Civil War while also being produced by Confederate forces (it ultimately failed to reach international acclaim).

Glen Ellyn is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. In the early 1800s, it was a farm settlement and then became a railroad station. It is now a suburb of Chicago. Glen Ellyn was founded in 1847 by John Couch and James McNaught as a farmstead on the east side of what is now the intersection of I-70 and Route 606. The first post office was established in 1848; it closed in 1957. On December 15, 1865, Glen Ellyn became the site of one of the three acts which created Chicago – it became part of Mayor Edward Burke's wards along with LaSalle and Hyde Park. The Great Northern Railway reached Glen Ellyn on November 11, 1872; it became an important transportation center for central Illinois until cars were standardized in 1926. In 1914, Glen Ellyn incorporated as a village; it changed its name to Glenview on October 21 that year after being selected as one of five finalists for the term "village" (along with Arlington Heights (now Oak Lawn), Lawndale (now Morton Grove), North Lawndale (now Westchester Village), and Wheeling). In 1922, when Cook County was organized into ten districts, Glenn Ellyn became part of District 2; this district lasted until 1984 when it merged into District 7. In 1932–1933 there was much discussion about moving from Elmhurst to Glenview because both Elmhurst and Garfield Park had become too large for their respective populations. However no action took place until after Franklin D Roosevelt won re-election with more than 50% of the vote in 1934 over incumbent Jesse Jackson who had run as an independent candidate against New Deal liberalism/Socialism/ Syndicalism united under Roosevelt's banner promising change from top to bottom including job creation through collective bargaining or public works programs like Hoover Dam: "I am not opposed todensity but I want density that will bring opportunity to all." Aftermath showed just how close many people living near MacArthur Drive thought they would be if they ever got their own housing development! A few years later construction began on Eisenhower–Truman Presidential Center just north of Interstate 90 at Goose Island Lake while residents nearby fought tooth-and-nail with developers trying to build homes next door using city streets without proper permits or compensation - some getting violent while others threatened legal action should such activities continue
