The history of gun mags in Glen Ellyn, Illinois goes back to 1892. That year, the first issue of the Republican Rifle and Pistol Club’s magazine was published. The club was meeting at the home of Dr. George Hargrave in Glen Ellyn. At that time, guns were not widely accepted as a means of defense and many people believed that they were only for hunting. However, with the help of some good friends (including Dr. John Toler) and a lot of hard work by the club members, firearms soon became more popular in the town. In 1905, Dr. Hargrave donated his entire rifle collection to the club and it began issuing magazines monthly out of his home. In 1912, additional members joined the club and it became an organization governed by a Board Of Directors made up of local citizens who had influence over gun policy in their area. The first issue of our magazine featured articles on shotguns and pistols as well as illustrations from local artists! Dr. Hargrave passed away in 1939 but his legacy lives on through our magazine which continues to be published monthly today!

Glen Ellyn, Illinois is a small town located in McHenry County, Illinois. The population was 7,971 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Glen Ellyn" comes from the Irish word "Gleann," meaning "Land of Gleam." The first settler in what is now Glen Ellyn was Patrick O'Donnell, who arrived in 1837. At that time, most of what is now McHenry County lay within the present-day city of Chicago. In 1847, a group of farmers led by John Hickey settled on a tract adjacent to what are now Glen Ellyn andits largest creek - West Branch Cottage Creek. What would become Glen Ellyn was first surveyed as part of Hickey's farm land grant on July 3rd, 1849 by surveyor George Washington Smithson. In 1860, James Aiken purchased 1/4 mile east of present day Glen Ellyn from John Hickey for $1USD and began developing it into a small community with two churches and 12 homes. Aiken named his new community after himself – James Aiken Village – which became an official name for the village in 1865 when it incorporated as a municipal corporation under the laws of Illinois. As early as 1870s developers were talking about creating an artificial lake near present day Glen Ellyn to provide water for their crops and createa resort town proper according to one report Some believe that this dream never came true but instead development took place aroundpresent day Glendale Road and Old Orchard Avenue which ran parallel to Lake Michigan until they were built over following World War II as part of Army Corps Road No 8 (now I-88). For more than 125 years businesses have been located along Old Orchard Avenue including several banks and numerous restaurants including KFC (later Carl's Jr.), Pizza Hut (later Domino's), Jamba Juice (later Starbucks) & Dunkin Donuts until recent times when several large box stores such as Sears Holdings Corp., Macy's Inc., JCPenney Co., Kohl's Corp., Barnes & Noble Incorporated replaced smaller businesses along Glendale Rd in favor of larger open fields capable of hosting tournaments or other outdoor events without fear that rain or snow could damage or stop traffic arteries leading into downtown Chicago during these popular holiday seasons

Glen Ellyn is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 73,521 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Illinois and the fourth-largest city in the Chicago metropolitan area. Glen Ellyn was founded on December 12, 1887 by George Washington Carver and his wife Sarah Jane Dunham Carver as a small farming community on two hundred acres (10 km²) of land east of present day Glen Ellyn Road. The town grew rapidly due to its proximity to cities such as Chicago and Springfield and its ability to provide services such as transportation, banking, education and health care. In 1922, the town became an incorporated municipality with a population of 507 people. The following year, it became one of thirty-six communities within the City of Chicago which were consolidated into one jurisdiction under Mayor Richard J. Daley's leadership. The departure of many European immigrants during World War II led to significant drops in population numbers in Glen Ellyn throughout most of the 1940s; however, by 1950 there had returned to near pre-war levels thanks to growth within local businesses and populations moving into new neighborhoods constructed around downtown cores like Armour Square and Riverwest Shopping Center – both located within walking distance of Glen Ellyn’s former agricultural center - while suburbanites moved into what had once been rural areas surrounding metropolitan Chicago’s northern borderlands. In 2000–2001 alone, some 21% new residents opted for suburban living; this represented an increase over prior years when only 8% or so moved outward across Cook County boundaries each year according to census data from 1990 through 2000). Some additional factors contributing to this trend include continued strong job growth enjoyed by downtown businesses since 1994 (particularly since reopening of riverwest shopping center), general tranquileness Ratings from Stated Community Areas Council (SCAC) members who monitor crime rates within municipalities adjacent thereto – especially efforts made by Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy dating back several years now – along with limited competition for housing births among older adults who have retired or are no longer working outside their homes…. Today’s [Glen Ellyn] community has seen dramatic changes over time resulting from advances in technology that have allowed for easier access both inside and outside our borders: satellite television service has given us access not onlyto our close friends & family scattered all around America but also faraway cultures we may never otherwise have experienced….. In short we are fortunate enough today to be part of what has become known as “the Great American Cities Movement."
Glen Ellyn was founded in 1847 by John F. Roche, who laid the groundwork for what would become Glen Ellyn's lumber industry. The town grew quickly and soon boasted a population of over 900 people. By 1860, Glen Ellyn had become an important center for the Illinois Central Railroad. In 1865, the railroad opened up a new line through Glen Ellyn that shortened travel time between Chicago and St. Louis by 50 minutes. This allowed Glen Ellyn to become one of the most important transportation hubs in the Midwest.
