The Glendale Rifle and Pistol Club, Glen Ellyn, Illinois was formed on October 21, 1892. The first meeting of the club were held at a rented hall in downtown Glen Ellyn. The purpose of the club was to keep firearms in good condition and protect them from unauthorized access. On November 3rd, 1892, the club organized its first annual meeting with H.L. Mencken as president and A.W. Griggs as secretary-treasurer. In 1905, Groomsman John Smeaton became president of the club and served for six terms until his death on May 8th, 1933. In 1907, the NRA moved into their new building at 610 W Fuller Street in Glen Ellyn which they used until 1959 when they moved to their current location at 901 N Rockwell Avenue

In 1840, General William Hull founded Hull's Mill which became one of Illinois' leading flour mills with its own railway line to bring flour into town from points eastward. By 1851, all but three schools in Glen Ellyn had been established: Holy Cross School (founded by Father James Flanagan), North Park School (founded by Rev. John Kahl), and South Park School (founded by Father John Pape). In 1855, many farmers began irrigating their land using canals dug through deep sandstones that ran parallel to the White River; this allowed them to grow crops year-round instead of having to worry about growing things during one season and selling them during another. This change began what would become known as "the Great American Land Rush".
