Glen Ellyn, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County and one of the three original towns in the county. The other two are Chicago and Oak Park. The town was first settled in 1847 by Scots-Irish immigrants who came to America as part of the Great Migration from Ireland. They built a log cabin on what is now State Route 2 near present-day Elmhurst Avenue. The first post office was established in 1849, and soon became known as "Glen Ellyn". In 1861, when Illinois was admitted to the Union as a state, Glen Ellyn became its third county seat. In 1872 it became an open-air market with an asphalt floor and stalls for hogs, cattle, sheep and pigs. A railroad station was completed nearby in 1886 and served Glen Ellyn until 1974 when Amtrak began serving it exclusively; today's Rapidway stop is located two miles southeast of town on I-290

Glen Ellyn, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,754 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1859 by Scottish immigrants and named for a bend in the river near where it now stands. In 1870 the town became a station on the Chicago & Northwestern Railway and by 1880 had reached its present size. The first post office opened in Glen Ellyn on July 1, 1881. The name of the town changed to Glenview in 1886 after an extra letter was added to make sure that every address had a unique name. Glen Ellyn experienced significant growth during World War II as one of America's " Arsenal Towns". Many factories were built here including General Motors and Sears Roebuck. After the war ended, many businesses closed or were converted into housing units and Glen Ellyn lost some of its industrial heyday but has since regained some of its former manufacturing importance with aluminum production being especially strong since 2010 though other industries have continued to thrive such as retail (Myer) and health care (Hershey). The current mayor is Ron Huether with term expiring at year-end 2019
Glen Ellyn was founded in 1855 by John D. Rockefeller and his brother, Edwin. The city became a major center for manufacturing and banking after the discovery of oil in Illinois in 1878. In the 1920s, Glen Ellyn helped spawn the Chicago Cubs baseball team and is home to the Illinois State University System campus.
