Glen Carbon is located in Kane County, Illinois, and has a population of over 145,000. The town was founded in 1853 by James W. Dunn and his wife Nancy. It became a gunsmiths’ town because of the abundance of firearms available for purchase there. In 1876, it became the home of the first commercial ammunition business in Kane County. Today, Glen Carbon is known for its historical buildings such as the Dunn House and the Post Office Building. The history of magazines began with David Hogg’s invention of the magazine clip in 1875. This device allowed handguns to be fired multiple times without having to reload. It also made it easier for individuals to carry large numbers of rounds with them at once. Other early pioneers in magazine design were John Moses Browning and George Ordway. Browning developed what is now known as the .50-caliber rifle and Ordway created a system called an “overhand loader” that allowed cartridges to be fed intoMagazine clips one after another without having to remove each individual round from its container

The Glen Carbon Rifle and Pistol Club was organized on October 15th, 1892. The club’s first meeting was held at the home of Zenas Pappalardo. The club began meetings monthly and in 1896 moved to the Masonic Hall. In 1907, the club purchased a shotgun from John Gentry and became a rifle and pistol club. On October 1st, 1912, the Glen Carbon Rifle and Pistol Club changed its name to the National Rifle Association (NRA).

However, Glen Carbon's economyIVERSE declined during World War II as production in Illinois shifted to war-production plants outside of Illinois. Glen Carbon has seen some recent resurgence since the Great Recession began in 2007-2008 and continued into 2009-2010 due to increased joblessness and low incomes within its borders; however this has stopped entirely since then due to an increase in crime rates throughout Cook County which have outpaced those for surrounding towns and villages by far. In addition to its lower economic status, Glen Carbon is also known for its high school football teams (the "Caps" are nicknamed after their home stadium), which play at Molineux Stadium on South State Road (US Highway 12). This stadium seats around 11,500 people making it one of the smallest football stadiums ever built.

Glen Carbon, Illinois is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Illinois. The population was 1,837 at the 2010 census. Glen Carbon is a part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Glen Carbon were Native Americans who lived along the river that runs through the town. The first European to arrive in what is now Glen Carbon was John Fitch, an American trader who came to this area in 1812. He built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river and started trading with local tribes. Glen Carbon was named after Colonel James WIlliam Glen, a British officer who had come to America in 1795 and established himself as a surveyor and landowner in this area. In 1827, General James Kapp assigned Colonel Glen's son-in-law George Armstrong to make surveys for him around Carbondale and other parts of western Illinois. George Armstrong founded what is now Aurora Savings Bank which opened its doors on April 6th, 1851. In 1857, when Carbondale became an incorporated city, Captain John Ziegler donated 450 acres (1 km²) of land near present-day Glencarbon village for use as public parkland. The first sod was cut for this park on October 5th, 1857 by Mayor Cornelius Cady and Postmaster General David Ritchie. Parkland west of where Bloomingdale Drive meets State Highway 45 currently houses one of two Catholic churches (the other being Our Lady Of Guadalupe), three schools (grades PreK-4; Grades 5-8; Science Academy), two businesses (a grocery store/cafeteria called The Earthworm restaurant and First National bank), and four residences including one home from President Abraham Lincoln which remains today as Glenn carbon United Methodist Church #2A . In 1939 Glendale Heights annexed part of Carbondale creating another municipality known as Glendale Heights - Carbondale Township
Glen Carbon, Illinois was founded in 1812 by a group of Scots-Irish settlers. The town prospered for many years and became a center for the local agricultural industry. However, during the 1930s, Glen Carbon experienced a great deal of economic decline. Many of the town's businesses closed down and its residents were forced to move out. In 1973, Glen Carbon was renamed after General George Washington Oakley.
