By 1870 most of the original buildings had been destroyed by fire or weather damage but CaptJohnGlenn' reconstructed many of them using logs brought over from his previous home along with new lumber brought over by traders from New York City who were visiting the area at that time. At some point around 1880 or 1890 MrsJohnGlenn relocated her main residence to what is now 4th Street & Elmwood Avenue where she continued to live until her death in 1935. Her husband also continued living here until his death in 1951). After MrsJohnGlenn' death local businessman Julius Aiken purchased her home for $2,500 cash plus interest (which would total $8,500 today). MrAiken quickly invested this money into building businesses within Glencarbon such as grocery store (1911), post office (1912), restaurant (1915), hardware store (1920) and banking institution called First National Bank which opened its doors on December 17th 1915 under MrAiken's leadership as president (. In 1936 CaptJohnGlenn' son-in-law Rufus Welch took control of First National Bank while his father lived out his final days with health problems at 622 Elmwood Ave.). After CaptJohn Glens passing away Welch set about running things more efficiently under guidance of vice presidents Everett Wesseler(1945-1966)and Wally Heissler(1966-1978). Over time First National Banks assets grew significantly totaling approximately $160 million before it went public on October 15th 1980 (). When First National Banks assets were listed on the stock exchange it led to increased competition among local businesses leading Welch to close up shop effective February 1983 due largely to high costs associated with maintaining an Exchange traded company () ). However Third World Foods Corporation (), formerly known as United Grocery Stores Inc., reopened successfully March 1984 (). During Third World Foods Corp.'s ownership there was significant investment made into expanding operations into other markets such as Canada (), Mexico () and Europe (). In 1992 Third World Foods Corporation sold their interests backtotheoriginalownership().
