When De Geneve died in 1807, his widow took control of fortification and development projects for her new husband's estate. In 1814 Joseph Medill founded Chicago as the first town west of the Mississippi Riverwu saw settlement westward beyond that point until Aledo (now Dallas) began settling in1825 with its own courthouse, jail and cotton gin; Medill donated land to Chicago so that it could besite its original town limits east of State Street/Lake Michigan Avenue within which Chicago would grow up over time. During this same time period many other businesses went out OF BUSINESS such as The Armoury Armory(1921) but it reopened under new ownership last year! Geneva is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,624 at the 2010 census. Geneva was founded on November 15, 1837 by Swiss immigrants. It became an incorporated city on December 1, 1859. Geneva is the county seat of Cook County and home to the Chicago Department of Transportation's international airport. The first Europeans to visit what is now Geneva were French traders who went there in 1701 as part of a fur trading expedition led by Samuel de Champlain. In 1734, General James Wilkinson and his army destroyed the Hochelaga (Clarendon) village near present-day Geneva after its inhabitants had attacked their supplies coming down the Irawaddy River from Burma (Myanmar). This event is generally considered to be the beginning of European settlement in what is now Illinois. In 1800, John Holcomb settled in this area and built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the current site of Geneva while he waited for better conditions farther west in what would become Kane County. When those improved conditions arrived in 1803, Holcomb sold his land to Isaac Morrill for $1 million dollars ($ ). Morrill then subdivided it into small lots and laid out streets that still form part of downtown Geneva today; these early streets name include Dearborn Street (north), State Street (south), Randolph Street (west), First Avenue (east), and Michigan Avenue (south). In 1837, Swiss immigrant Johann Nepomuceno Ruschi established himself as one of America's first farmers with access to highlands east of Lake Michigan through purchase from Native Americans including Potawatomi leader Tequesta Kiska and others. He named his new town after his birthplace – Genoa – which he had seen during an extended trip through Italy some years before when he was treasurer for Napoleonic France’s forces stationed there under Emperor Franz Joseph I during that country’s war against Austria over Venice’s Dalmatian subjects—the largest action ever fought between military forces within North America!
