Geneva, Illinois is a small town located in the far northeast corner of Illinois. The population was 7,584 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. In 1870, after annexing part of Lombard Township (now McHenry County), Geneva renamed itself “Geneva” for then-Governor John Prentice Root (1824-1893). After becoming an incorporated village, Genevieve levied its own taxes and built its own schoolhouse; both were destroyed during World War II but have been rebuilt and are currently used as public library buildings. The first store within the Village limits was open for business on October 9th 1865 when Wm Fenton & Sons opened up shop at 1115 N Clinton Street. That same year also saw the opening of the first radio station in this part of Illinois – WCFL (originally called WBBM) broadcasting from a 2 story building at 1250 N Holland Avenue – later known as First State Bank Building #2 which still stands today and serves as one half of the current west side branch bank structure across from First State Bank building #1 south side! So much so that after much deliberation Mayor Tice ordered all posts within 100 feet radius east or southeast of Pembroke Road between Racine Ave./Lake Shore Drive &northbound I-294 be closed down with no mail service or phone access allowed! This order resulted in many nostalgic memories among those who lived through those years because until recently almost all communication between residents outside those boundaries took place via hand signals&okiks!
