When Galesburg, Illinois was founded in 1836 it was a small town with only a few hundred residents. However, over time the community grew and quickly became one of the most important settlement in Illinois. The region that today includes Galesburg was first settled by American Indians and later became part of the French colony of Louisiana. As this area changed hands many times, so too did the holster trade. In 1846 two men named John Fenton and David Brown decided to set up a store in what is now Galesburg and began selling holsters. One of the earliestHolsterUSA holsters was created by George Washington Wiley which he designed for his own use as a law enforcement officer. In fact, Wiley’s holster is still used by law enforcement officers all over America today! John Fenton continued to sell holsters from his store until he died in 1903 however, his son David Brown continued development of HolsterUSA’s products into the 21st century! In 1814, Stephenson married Martha Cook and they started to farm near modern day Cairo. By 1820, they had three children: John Sr., James Jr., and Emmalee (Martha's daughter). In 1824, Stephenson married Lucy Ingalls and they started to farm near present day Janesville. In 1830, they had six children: Peleg, Oliveria (Lucy's sister), George Washington (John Stephenson's son from a previous marriage), Sally Ann (Peleg's wife), Harriet Beecher Stowe (Harriet Beecher Stowe's niece), and Everett WinthropStephenson (.Everett Winthrop Stevenson was born on September 12th 1865 in Mayville, Iowa) (). In 1840 (), when Illinois became an state after being admitted as a U.S. state on October 15th of that year, Stephenson and his family moved from Egypt to Springfield where he worked for the Illinois Central Railroad Company (). They lived on State Street in Springfield until their death in 1906 (). One of their grandsons also became an American Congressman from Illinois; his grandson Everett Winthrop Stevenson serving from 1959-1967 as congressman from Cook County IL

Galesburg was founded on the east side of the Chicago River in 1859 by John Fenton and others from England. In 1872 it became an incorporated village with a government-run school system and a storekeepers cooperative society. On May 15, 1889 Galesburg won its first municipal election and became a city with a mayor and City Council. The city's first mayor was Francis Whelan. On October 20, 1914 Galesburg became home to America's first air raid warning service when two American V-2s attacked central Galesburg without warning; all but one of the town's twenty homes were destroyed by firebombing during World War II. The community has seen many changes in its history: it was once known as "The Village" because all businesses were housed within one building on Main Street; then it became "The Corporation" because most manufacturing took place within company towns throughout North America before the late 1960s; finally it reverted back to its original name of "Galesburg" after being renamed McLean County seat in 1984 following voting by residents there for that distinction over Champaign County seat (now Urbana). Today much of what used to be inside Galesburg limits are now outside - such as Rt 128 which leads directly into Champaign County; both halves of I-88 leading into Illinois are now called State Route 128 (the old alignment ran through downtown); accordingly much of downtown business has moved away from its former site out onto rural roads or across state lines into Missouri or Kentucky etc., while parts remain only slightly hidden behind trees due to their difficult access from Interstate 88/Rt 128: thus one can still visit significant parts of what once were Galesbergian neighborhoods today if they know where to look! By way of contrast nothing quite like this exists anywhere else inChampaign County - even O'Hare International Airport is significantly smaller! Some aspects that have not changed include the fact that people still go to church here (although services may now take place elsewhere), there remains high quality civic engagement through organizations such as Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club and American Legion Post #527 which provide programs for local kids & families including summer jobs & other opportunities; despite this however some commercial growth has taken place recently around town via restaurant openings etc., so along with overall decline in population size over several decades since annexations began occurring nearby [which also caused Great Lakes Dredging Company LLC], life here must continue pretty much as it does today for official purposes...
Galesburg was founded in 1824 by John H. Gale, a man who had been born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The town grew rapidly and soon became a major center of the fur trade in the region. By 1830, Gale had married Anna Maria White, daughter of a wealthy landowner in nearby Moline. The couple moved to Galesburg and began to operate a grocery store. In 1836, they hired George Wigglesworth as their first clerk. Wigglesworth would later become one of Galesburg's most prominent citizens and serve as its mayor from 1872 to 1880. In 1840, Gale purchased 253 acres (11 km2) of land overlooking the Des Plaines River from Nicholas Biddle for $5,000. This property would eventually be used to build the Illinois State Capitol Complex—the first state capitol in America—and remain an important part of Galesburg's history until it burned down in 1933. In 1865, Galesburg became home to the first high school in Illinois when students from Winnetka High School attended classes at what is now Northwestern University for two years before returning home to finish high school elsewhere.
