At that time, Galesburg was known as the "gun Mecca of America." Gun Target Manufacturing Company continued to operate until 1925. Today, there are several businesses that sell and service gun targets in Galesburg. Some of these businesses include: The Armory, which specializes in manufacturing reproduction firearms targets; The Gunsmiths Shop, which sells target stocks and accessories; and The Shooting Gallery, which provides shooting instruction and rentals for use with firearms. Additionally, the Illinois State Capitol Building is home to the Municipal Museum of Firearms History, which features an extensive collection of antique handguns and other shooting equipment from around Illinois.

Galesburg is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,542 at the 2010 census. The original settlement was called "Stroudsburg" and the present name honors Judge George W. Stroud of Macon Township who donated land to the town in 1868. Galesburg first became a village on November 1, 1893, when it merged with neighboring Westville. On December 15, 1903, Galesburg annexed withdrew from Westville Village and became an independent town. It remained an independent town until January 1st of 1907 when it merged with nearby Pekin to form Galesburg-Pekin Village. On October 5th 1916 Galesburg annexe d Utica and changed its name toUtica City after being given permission by the State of Illinois for this action as Utica had been without a city charter since 1870 On February 14th 1920 Galesburg annexe d Plainfield and changed its name to Plainfield Township after receiving township status from the state government following a referendum vote . Galesburg, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. Galesburg was first settled by German and Irish immigrants in the mid-19th century. The town was incorporated as a village in 1872. In 1956, it became an independent city. Galesburg is located on the eastern edge of Springfield Township and has a total area of 22 square miles (59 km²). The townsite that now makes up Galesburg was platted in 1852 by George Washington Carver and others who were seeking to create a market for their products near Springfield's already present cotton gin and slave market. During the 1830s and 1840s there were several large waves of German settlers traveling westward across the Great Lakes region looking for land to farm or build homes on - many settling near what would become Galesburg. Eventually more than 25% of all Galesburgh residents were German-born – making it one of Illinois’ largest concentrations of Germans outside Chicago or Detroit (where most Germans lived then). In 1871, when Springfield Township was organized, Galesburg “bore its share” in its founding charter as one of “the numerous villages” founded within township boundaries during that year’s consolidation process overseen by then-Sheriff James Wickersham. That same year saw also initial platting efforts underway for what would later become Park Avenue east from Main Street – with much speculation surrounding whether or not such development might lead to continued growth for Village Hall Square/Victoria Park beyond what had been originally proposed for just two blocks south along Main Street itself. The success enjoyed by those early Village Board members led to even more incorporation activity following approval by village trustees on December 12, 1872; thus becoming officially separate from neighboring Sterling Heights until April 9, 1893 when both cities merged into one entity under new name: Springfield–Galesburg City government." Additionally annexations followed soon thereafter including parts of West Side Prairie which annexed in 1901 while East Side Prairie took over annexation proceedings after being chartered as a village in 1886; former White Settlement annexed circa 1912; Allentown annexed 1913; Northfield annexed 1915 etcetera resulting in today's mix of residential areas situated primarily around Main Street with commercial properties stretching northward out into Northwestavia Farms before finally terminating abruptly at Morningside Drive/Springfield Boulevard just inside downtown limits." This growth pattern continued unabated through World War I and into the 1920s – although Commercial Row ground zero shifted somewhat after years upon years Of post-war suburban sprawl characterized various portions Northwesternavia Farms & Allentown neighborhoods via evergreen / state Route 23 corridor looping back onto I-465 heading generally southeast while bypassing industrial & commercial districts located immediately adjacent thereto prior to reaching Southtown limits whereupon providing endless single family housing developments progressing increasingly away from downtown center continuing until eventually exiting Downtown Limits at current Morningside Drive location

Galesburg was founded by the Galesburg Chapter of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1854. The town originally consisted of just a few homes and a small store.
