During World War II, Freeport became an air force base due to its location on Antietam Ridge near Clearwater Beach where fighter pilots could operate from local airstrips during combat operations against Nazi Germany or Japan across Lake Champlain Valley or Great Lakes area During the 1970s and 1980s,freeport underwent significant redevelopment which included the construction of freeports Terminal One (now known as Patriot Container Terminal), Terminal Two (now known as Headland Marina), Dock 1 (now known as North Pointe Landing), Dock 2 (now known as South Pointe Landing), West Coast Outlet( now called Harbourfront Park)and many other businesses including Sears Department Store which closed its doors in December 1987 but continues to be preserved within Harbourfront Park today

To accommodate for this new trend of Sniper warfare, artillery commanders began to request that their artillery units be issued sniper rifles capable of firing both high explosives incendiary rounds as well as shot shells or mortar rounds through Picatinny rails on the receiver end of the rifle. This necessitated new sighting devices which could attach directly to optical tubes using screw type mounting hardware similar to what is used today on action cameras or camcorders when using these types of sights with video footage recording capabilities
