The history of rifle scopes goes back to the muzzleloader era. At that time, firearms were used for hunting game and not as a tool for precision shooting. In 1815, Captain John Cook discovered Tasmania and began his exploration of Australia. While on his trip, Cook noticed many trees with unusual leaves or branches growing in these remote areas. He named one such area “Tasmania” after King George III of England because he believed it would be difficult for European settlers to find land there without help from Native Australians. Cook's first sighting of Mount Victoria occurred on December 14th, 1814 when he sighted its peak from about 5 miles away using his telescope! After mapping out many more sites including Botany Bay and Tantalum Cove, Cook returned home successfully but with some new discoveries! One day while exploring these new areas, Cook came across what is now known as Fortescue Point which lies off the coast of Western Australia near Perth (now Perth). With this discovery, Cook became the first Europeans ever to explore Australian soil! The Village of Freeport was organized on April 1, 1873. The first settler in Freeport was George Hinchman. He built a cabin on the current site of the city hall on July 2, 1874. In 1875, John Muhlenberg and his brother-in-law brought over a group of farmers from Kentucky to help with the early development of the community. In 1876, James Gee platted what is now downtown Freeport and named it after himself – Geeowne Township (now City). In 1880, William Ladd took over as President of the United States Land Bank and donated land for what became Freeport Park. On December 12th 1907, Fenton Post Office opened in Freeport with mail service being provided by both Cook & Wagon Wheel Postmasters until 1908 when they changed to Chicago American Mail service On October 15th 1916 an influenza pandemic began in America and caused many businesses to close their doors across the country including many infreport businesses which closed January 9th 1917 due to lack of resources however freeport did not suffer any direct damage as most other places within impact were able to reopen relatively soon
