As technology advanced during the 1800s, more advanced ways to sight a gun became available such as using sights on horses or dogs instead of humans which improved accuracy and range when shooting at targets outdoors. As more people began owning firearms, they also needed new devices to help them aim their weapons successfully outside into open spaces such as Franklin Park where gunfire could be heard echoing off the buildings! At that time, the company became known as the "Elgin Rifle Scope Company". In 1916, the company merged with William R. Macy's Optical Shop to become the Macy Optical Company. The company continued to produce rifle scopes until it ceased production in 1938.

The Franklin Park community was organized in 1836 when three farmers banded together to improve their land and engage in farming. In 1847, the first school opened in Franklin Park. The first post office was established in 1851 and the first store opened in 1853. In 1865, a gristmill was built on the west side of town and became one of the most important contributors to Franklin Park's growth over the years. In 1903, two churches were built: First Baptist Church and Methodist Episcopal Church. A water tower was erected in 1916 and remains an important landmark today. In 1951, a new high school (now called Roosevelt High School) opened for students in Franklin Park. A fire destroyed much of what remained of First Presbyterian Church on North LaSalle Street on December 10, 1980; it reopened five months later with help from donations from residents and businesses across Franklin Park. The church has since rebuilt and now uses its original facade as part of its NRHP property portfolio commemorating this event. Today, Franklin Park is home to many cultural institutions including Roosevelt High School Academy (a private girls' academy), Tanglewood Theatre Company (a performing arts organization), Downers Grove-based Stritch Theatre Company (an American theatre company), Hennepin Hills Arts Center (an art center), and Common Ground Productions (a theater group). There are also several parks within walking distance including Lincoln Woods Preserve which offers hiking/biking trails as well as picnic areas for children; Brooklyn Woods which includes baseball fields as well as playgrounds/entertainment venues such as a movie theater; Lisle Lake which provides fishing opportunities;and Elgin Mills which contains a golf course as well as multiple restaurants including Burger King(the grounds host weekly concerts by local rock bands).
