Franklin Park is a small town in the northwest corner of Illinois, about 20 miles south of Chicago. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It lies just outside of the University of Illinois campus in Champaign-Urbana. The first gun magazine in Franklin Park was established by George Wiebe in 1868. Wiebe, who also ran a grocery and post office on the same property, began stocking firearms for sale to residents of his village. His shop soon became known as "The Gunsmiths' Store." In 1875, Nathan Hale's uncle, Amos Hale, bought the store from Wiebe and continued to operate it as an armory until his death in 1922. In 1903, ownership passed through several hands before being purchased by Harry Elmore Jr., one of Champaign County's most prominent citizens. The magazine continued to be operated by Elmore until it closed its doors in 1970. After closure, many items belonging to The Gunsmiths' Store were sold off or donated to various organizations throughout Champaign-Urbana including UIUC Women’s Center (now UIUC Libraries), East Side Tennis Club (now Elmwood) and Stonington School District No. 2 (now Chilton).

Cosmopolitan would then merged with Griffin-Bruckner Publishing Company in 1957 to create “CosmoPublishing Corporation” which continued publishing Gun Digest through 1978 while all other holdings were sold off to Houghton Mifflin Company (HMCO) who ultimately discontinued publication in 1984. Franklin Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,595 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Franklin Park were the Potawatomi Indians who lived near the confluence of the Chicago River and Des Plaines River. European explorers first discovered this area in 1672 when Captain James Cook sailed past from England on his Discovery Expedition. In 1795, surveyors began mapping out present-day Cook County and found that a large tract of land extending into what is now Franklin Park had been reserved for future use by the Government of Illinois as part of their "Roads and Canals" initiative. This parcel became known as "The City Point." In 1837, General William H. Harrison ordered Major John Custer to lead an attack against Native Americans in what is today Crawford County, Indiana; however, due to bad weather conditions Custer's forces were forced to withdraw before they could reach their destination. This event is often cited as one of the most famous military engagements in American history. After Harrison's death in 1876, President Ulysses S. Grant named Franklin Park as one of four new national parks created during his presidency—the others being Yellowstone National Park (1889), Yosemite National Park (1903), and Kings Canyon National Monument (1936). As part of World War II emergency management plans following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 (), Franklin Park served as a training ground for USAAF airmen stationed at Midway Island (). During much of its history, Franklin Park has been economically struggling due to high levels of unemployment and lack thereof within its borders; however recent advancements made by local businesses have begun to improve conditions there residents'. One such example would be The Gilded Cage restaurant which opened up shop inside The Cube shopping center located just east off I-90 near Cicero Avenue; this business brings fresh produce from nearby farms directly into Franklinspark without having to go through any agricultural distributors or truckers!
