The first guns were made in the area that is now Franklin Park, Illinois. The area was originally part of the French colony of Quebec and was known as the Gaspésie. In 1763, the British took over Quebec and renamed it Canada. The new government decided to arm the settlers in order to protect them from Native Americans who had been raiding their villages. So, in 1764, a group of men started making guns out of wood and metal. They named their company “The Riflemen” because they wanted everyone to know that they were making guns for defense only. The first gun barrel was made from a piece of oak about 54 inches long and 18 inches wide. It weighed about 10 pounds and could shoot one shot at a distance of up to 100 yards. This gun was used by the riflemen for hunting game such as deer, moose, bear, or seal. Over time, more things were needed in order to make guns work properly so people started creating other types of barrels: cannons, rifles, pistols etcetera. By 1800, there were over 1,000 different barrels being made in Franklin Park alone! As each person became more skilled with their craftsmanship, barrel production continued to increase until at least 1942 when World War II began and Barrel Production ceased due to wartime shortages

During this time period also saw increased visitation due in large part to President John F Kennedy's speech given at Wrigley Field in 1962 which called for more children being able to enjoy parks activities such as playing catch or picnicking outdoors free from commercial interests etc..
