Frankfort is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 34,548. The name "Frankfort" comes from the French word "frankfort," meaning "the strong fortification." The first European to explorer what is now Frankfort Township was Jean Nicolet in 1763. He named it for Prince Frederick of Hesse-Darmstadt (1712-1785), Elector of Bavaria and grandson of King George III of Great Britain and Ireland. In 1813, Abraham Lincoln was born here. In 1822, when General James K. Polk invaded Illinois as part of his Missouri Expedition, he proposed that the capital be moved to Springfield because it would be more centrally located and provide easier access to supplies and reinforcements for the invading army. On November 7, 1822, Springfield voters approved moving the capital from Bloomington to Frankfort to coincide with Polk's efforts to create a center for public education in Illinois. The city grew rapidly during its early years as businesses transported goods by wagon train into and out of Springfield on routes such as State Route 38/US Highway 1 (now I-270) and Michigan Avenue; today much older downtown buildings survive from this period including one built on the site of the old state Capitol building which currently houses several businesses including Macy's Department Store! In 1840, John J. Pershing organized an expedition against Native Americans at Waco Creek in Texas; his forces were successful in driving them back but killed many innocent people fleeing their village resulting in international outrage which led to Pershing's suspension from service pending investigations into his actions at Waco Creek! Franklin D Roosevelt also served on this expedition although he only traveled about 100 miles eastward along trails then followed west again! It should be noted that both Presidents were very young when they took office so their experience may not have been fully reflected in their decisions or public remarks made at that time about our involvement with Mexico regarding Waco Creek! As Frankfort grew wealthier due largely to manufacturing companies established there during these earlier years such as Donnelley & Co., Armour & Co., Allyn Brothers Glass Works etc., prostitution became increasingly popular among women working long hours outside without any benefits other than being able to use common areas like streets or sidewalks where customers could frequently leerfully abuse them while they engaged in acts which sometimes included sex workers being forceably circumcised or having lacerations Gangrene set up shop near schools providing free medical care called "puncture pie" Disease spread rapidly throughout city thanks primarily to open sewers left untreated contaminated water seeping through broken ground giving Residents constant exposure until finally clean water installation began soon after City Council election in 1896!!! Today over 40% OF THE POPULATION LIVE IN OR NEAR THE CITY CENTER WITH LARGE NUMBERS OF BUSINESSES LOCATED IN NONDISTANT AREAS ALLOWING FOR URBAN REFRESHMENT!!!
