In response to this report Ulysses S. Grant ordered Major Robert Ransom to build Fort Donelson across the river at Jacksonville Landing which guarded River Road and prevented smuggling attempts. In 1830 Abraham Lincoln visited Franksfort while campaigning for election as President against Andrew Johnson and purchased flour from local farmers who stored it in barns on their property until needed for baking bread; he then donated it back to these farmers (Lincoln). A plaque located near Interstate 55 commemorates this event: “President Abraham Lincoln bought flour from farmers during campaign trip in 1830” Moses Halleck served as Secretary of War under President Ulysses S Grant during Reconstruction and helped organize many blacksmith shops across America including those in Frankfort (Halleck). Many African Americans fled oppressive slavery practices throughout much of the Midwest during this time period making way for new businesses like these with opportunity soon following (Dunnigan). On November 1st 1907 an act passed by both houses in Congress entitled "An Act To Promote Agriculture" became effective creating what is now known as National Agricultural Research CenterFrankfurt/Germany (). This research center would eventually lead to modern day Monsanto corporation becoming operational there! On July 2nd 1949 an actonyed amendment thereto called "The Organic Act Amendments Of 1949" became effective providing more regulation surrounding organic farming products giving rise to today's food industry requiring extensive labeling! Today Franksford continues its role as one of America's top agricultural communities hosting major research facilities related thereto!
