They came to the area in 1836 and built a cabin near current day Fox Point on the shore of Fox Lake. In 1841 David Jameson arrived with his family and began to clear land for farming purposes. From this time on, Fox Lake was known as Jameson's Landing or Jameson's Ferry Landing because it served as a landing point for travelers coming from Chicago to Rock Island County. In 1865 Maud Alice White moved to central Illinois from Decatur, Illinois and married David Whitefield who had been born there about that time. Maud Alice White was instrumental in keeping fox hunting alive throughout much of Cook County until it became illegal during Prohibition era in 1919. Her husband died on December 10th, 1955 at age 92 years old; he had been living at Blue Valley Nursing Home since November 15th prior to his death which took place two days after Thanksgiving Day due to an existing heart condition that did not respond well to traditional medicine treatments at that time. David Whitefield's parents Signe Clearwater (née Jensen) and Ole Hanson were natives of Denmark who emigrated to America in 1855 aboard the SS Evangelist when they were eighteen years old following the American Civil War effort by their fatherland which resulted in Denmark becoming an independent state within America following its victory over southern US forces at Battle of Gettysburg on July 4th 1863 -this event marked Danish entry into post-war AmericaNation status as well as their acceptance into American society which followed suit shortly thereafter . After various moves various iterations later still Clearwaterside Park opened adjacent present day downtownfox lake IL location - residences demolished early 1990s redevelopment/renovation leading eventually downtown construction starting 2002

Grant Road and Cook Route 15. At that time, it served only McHenry County residents. In 1870, the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad built a line from Joliet to Fox Lake; this made the town more accessible for settlers and businesses growth began quickly. In 1878, the first courthouse opened in Fox Lake with Wm Hinton as its justice of the peace; this courthouse became operational until 1909 when it burned down. In 1916, Fox Lake became a city when it merged with Bloomington; however, annexation of neighboring towns continued until 1978 when all but two of McHenry County's towns were annexed into Chicago (Bellefontaine Heights/Homan Park and Arlington Heights/Lake View). The last resident to leave Fox Lake on July 1st 2018 was Peggy Kappler who moved to White Settlement just south of town after her son graduated high school there
The Fox Lake Massacre took place on September 6, 1871, when a group of white men and boys led by Samuel Eaton opened fire on a group of black residents of Fox Lake, Illinois. The massacre resulted in the death of at least 36 people, including 19 children.
