Forest Park is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, located on the far north side of the Chicago metropolitan area. This order remains one of America's most famous historical moments - it is also considered one of Fenton's innovations because he allowed recreational use within boundaries set by law while still preserving natural resources for military training and operations. In 1946, when Forrest Parks opened its gates as a public park system--the second largest municipally owned park system in America after New York City's Central Park--it became known as "The People's Park."
