Forest Park is a city in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and was founded as a town in 1871. The current form of Forest Park was first created when the village of Arlington Heights merged with parts of Forest Park in 1961. As a result, all of what is now Arlington Heights and Forest Park were annexed into the new city. The name "Forest Park" originated from forest land that had been donated to the City by John Pemberton (one of America's first millionaires), who also endowed a library, park and several other public works within the city limits. The original plat for Forest Park included an area bounded by Lake Michigan on one side, State Street on the other, Prairie Avenue on its eastern border and Cicero Road on its southern border. In 1871, after years of debate over whether or not to create a town within DuPage County (as opposed to simply annexing portions thereof), it was decided to create a new town called Arlington Heights out of what would become Forest Park. The name for this new town – which eventually became home to some of Chicago's most affluent residents – reflects Pemberton's donation: "Arlington Heights lifts her proud head above her many Gilded Age homes; here they will build up anew their beautiful townsite." Despite being laid out as almost exactly like his previous townsite in Forest Hills (now Elmhurst), Livingston Parish native John Davenport did not succeed in building anything close resembling an outdoor marketplace or courthouse at his original site due to lack of money and popularity among settlers - both inside and outside of Arlington Heights itself. However, he did lay out two parks which still comprise much Of-Forthpark today: Riverside Drive & Country Club Drive/Walking Trail & Dearborn Road/Haggin' Horse Racetrack Boulevard). One can only imagine how well those initial gardens would have done if never disturbed by development! Despite this lacklustre start however, Davenport quickly realized that he had something more important at hand when it came to creating something special within his community…and so began what would be known as 'The Village'. A key player during these early days was Mrs Anna Janssen who played an instrumental role in helping organize various services such as First Methodist Church #1 (later known as Trinity United Church) and helped found schools including Armoury High School #3 (later renamed Stritch-Lincoln Elementary School). Today there are many commemorative statues and plaques throughout our community recognizing individuals or organizations who've made significant contributions during its history – each inscribed with either their date or placeof birth! On July 4th 1890 Cincinnatus Dodge celebrated America's birthday with mass gathering at Masonic Temple located across from present day Forrest Park Cemetery just off Milwaukee Avenue North near Washington Boulevard East! This event has been incorrectly reported as occurring on July 4th 1899 instead! A plaque dedicated to him can be foundopposite Masonic Temple today… marking another event annouced locally but unfortunately never properly documented!

In 1871, the Forest Park area was part of the Town of Bloomington. The first tavern in Forest Park opened in 1872. In 1874, the town created a park with land around it. In 1880, the first golf course was built in Forest Park. On July 4th, 1888, Forest Park became a city and has ever since been governed by a City Council.
