On October 1, 1916 Mayor Harry Bennett dedicated Forest Park's first park - Michigan Grove - with a speech that began "This beautiful woody tract here today once formed part of DeKalb Township... now it belongs to us."[2] Forest Park saw an influx of people during World War II because so many companies went into production onizarding new munitions plants there like General Motors[3][4]. After the war ended large numbers of people moved away from Lake View Terrace because they could not find jobs in the new economy which had emerged after 1945.[5][6] Many residents who had left turned their backs on Forest Park when it passed through changes brought about by suburban development throughout Cook County over time including: increasing traffic congestion,[7][8], loss of open space due to conversion to housing developments,[9][10] displacementof families living near schools and parks,[11][12], increased crime rates[13],[14], parking problems caused by construction vehicles using blocksaded streets[15], pollution from manufacturing plants nearby[16], water shortages resultant from droughts[17],[18]; however recent studies have shown that many aspects associated with suburbia – high density housing growth, joblessness among young adults – are actually causing more displacement than they were before while also creating opportunities for businesses located within close-by suburbs to emerge as leaders in their industries.[19]:176–183

Forest Park, Illinois was founded on August 24, 1847 as a result of the donation of land by the Chicago and Western Railroad Company. The original forest included 375 acres (174 hectares) in the eastern edge of the city. On October 3, 1847, Mayor George B. Post approved a will from John P. Hennepin that provided for a park to be established in Forest Park on what is now Lake Michigan Boulevard between State Street and Clark Street. The first public game ever played in Forest Park was an American football game against Adams College on November 2, 1848. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln made it part of the United States Military Academy at West Point until his death in 1865. In 1896, Forest Park became a municipally administered park with its own board of trustees and mayor-council system similar to that of other U.S. cities or townships such as Chicago or Buffalo Grove Heights. In 1903, construction began on one of Chicago's most prestigious hotels - The Adelphi - which would later become known as The President Hotel and become a popular tourist destination for both locals and visitors alike over the years. By 1907, Forrest Park had acquired another 630 acres (270 hectares) making it one of Chicago's largest parks by area at that point in time In 1916/17 there was significant renovation work done to many buildings within Forrest Park including those located near Wacker Drive including Trump Tower and Madison Square Garden which were then leased out to various businesses such as RKO Radio Corporation who used them extensively during their early days in America . To commemorate World War I veteran's Day on July 4th 1918 – ground was broken for Soldiers' Memorial Amphitheater which would eventually serve as home field for numerous NFL teams through the years including Bears (1925), Cardinals (1926), Blackhawks (1929), Hawks (1930), Cubs (1931), Wildcats (1932) etc . also within Forrest Park was erected Eldridge Home National Historic Site / National Monument honoring Illinois soldiers who served during World War I
