The Forest Park rifle factory was established in 1874 by J.W. Herrick and his son, George. The company manufactured rifles for the Union Army during the Civil War. After the war, Herrick became a firearms dealers and eventually incorporated the Forest Park Rifle Factory into his business. In 1925, Leland Swayne bought the company from Herrick and continued production of shotguns and rifles there until he expanded into handgun manufacturing in 1958. The Forest Park Rifle Factory produced over 150 different types of firearms including handguns, shotguns, rifle barrels, and hunting rifles between 1925 and 1958.

Forest Park, Illinois is a small town located in the northwestern corner of the state of Illinois. The population was 5,005 at the 2010 census. Forest Park is bordered by Carbondale to the north, Galesburg to the east, Blue Island and Harrison to the south, and Batavia to the west. The first people in what is now Forest Park were Native American hunter-gatherers who lived near present day Carbondale. In 1814, General James K. Polk traveled through this area on his way from Washington D.C., and saw an immense forest that he called "the most beautiful I had ever seen." Soon after, lumber interests began moving into this area and soon there were mills in operation around town. By 1826, Forest Park had become a bustling community with its own school system, churches and businesses. In 1868, two brothers named George and Isaac Hennepin started a mill here which would remain one of Forest Park's primary employers until it closed its doors in 1976. The mill produced flour for local residents as well as export sales to other states such as Canada. The Hennepins also donated land for a public park which became known as Hennepin Woods after them. During World War II many soldiers camped here before being deployed elsewhere in the country; these camps are still visible today in nearby neighborhoods like Ridgway Heights and La Grange Hills! In 1954, when Carbondale was annexed by Chicago,[1] Forest Park became part of city limits within Chicago proper (although it remains independent). Forest Park experienced some growth during the late 1960s through 1970s when large numbers of students moved into town from surrounding suburbs - this led to increased traffic congestion on State Street which required changes to both its infrastructure and street names throughout town! However even during these years there remained much that made ForrestPark unique – such as its excellent location right next door to downtownChicago making it easy for visitors to get around! Since 2000 however things have been changing rapidly within this small town – thanks largely to new development outside of its borders! In 2014 Forstpark saw an influx of around 100 refugees[2] fleeing violence or persecution in their home countries – many coming from Syria specifically!
