This range served as both an opportunity for private individuals to sharpen their skills and also offered public members an opportunity to compete against other towns in Illinois. The development of shotguns in World War I led to increased demand for ammunition by military users throughout theicago area. Upon hearing about this demand, local manufacturers began producing shells specifically designed for shotguns. These shells became known as "Forest Park shells." As shotgun ammunition became more popular, so too did Forest Park's reputation as a center for shotgun ammo production. In 1922, when Chicago hosted its first international fair promoting world trade, much interest was shown in coming through Forest Park primarily because it boasted one of only two miles of unbroken forested coastline within easy reach from downtown Chicago! At this fairgrounds exposition complex located on Michigan Avenue between Madison and Dearborn Streets (now part of McCormick Place), gun dealers from across North America exhibited their latest products including rifles, shotguns and pistols! Forest Park is a city located in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 38,569 at the 2010 census. Forest Park is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by Humboldt Park to the east, maywood to the south and west, and Riverdale to the north. As of the 2000 census, Forest Park had a total population of 37,907. In 1924 it became a city when it was annexed from Wheaton. The current name comes from land that once belonged to the forest park estate called "The Forrest". Forest Park was first settled by Quakers in 1827 on what is now Washington Boulevard between Pulaski and Damen Streets. They built a gristmill there in 1830 and founded a school trustee's office in 1837-38 next door to their mill with John Pritzker as one of its trustees. By 1840 they had erected two stores - one on each side of Washington Boulevard - and began growing corn and oats for sale on their lots around present day Armour Drive (now Howard Avenue). A sawmill opened on what would become Fort Dearborn Road in 1847 but quickly went out of business due to low prices for lumber brought about by Railroads coming through Chicago then being built just northwest of town; however, this did not stop farmers from starting up similar mills along Dearborn Road in nearby Wheeling Heights until 1870 when those mills closed down due to lack of demand or competition from other industrial centers near Chicago proper. In 1852 Mayor Lucas donated 640 acres (25 km²) near present day Sherman Oaks across Cook County Line into Shawnee Township so that people living within 500 feet (150 m) of any public building could vote without having property taken away; Forest Park residents got an opportunity to do just that when they raised $1,500 towards building a courthouse which wasn't meant for them but would have been their only hope if they needed it during election times since elections were held at different times every two years back then than they are now; finally voters approved spending $851/acre (3 hectares) worth of real estate tax money – known locally as "forest fund" – towards construction starting in 1861 which included acquiring more land eastward including parts now lying within Maywood boundaries before annexing that community too following annexation proceedings initiated by Mayor Nicholas Frontenac who also served as DuPage County State's Attorney After opening its doors as an incorporated village on December 14th, 1903 with 3200 residents,[2][3] Forest Park experienced rapid growth thanks largely to several generous donations made by individuals such as Aldrich Rockefeller[4], Cyrus McCormick[5], George Pullman[6], Burt Sholes[7] among others long after these contributions stopped being given anonymously some time prior into the 20th century because suspicion grew amongst many municipalities about why some people were giving large sums (>$100) rather than donating anything tangible like land or services rendered shortly thereafter instead preferring instead largesse delivered via anonymous check sent directly into municipal coffers thereby masking true motivations whenever possible while causing less inconvenience downstream should something go wrong should such largesse be used unlawfully etc.; however civic unrest eventually ensued over small Council meetings populated mostly by wealthy businessmen rather than everyday citizens who felt left behind especially during wartime era [8][9][10] despite attempts dating back centuries earlier by various Village officials both elected & appointed locally vs privately funded military bases & airports situated outsideVillage Limits resulting indirectly in loss or damage plus high levels OF taxation & regulation unprecedented anywhere else throughout much Midwestern U.S.[11][12][13][/folder] The first post office opened at what is now Armour Drive on November 9th 1880,[14] serving constituents located within present-day Maywood Community Districts 1st Ward though 4th Ward comprising part then bounded today by Kedzie Avenue / Dempster Street / Western Avenue / Harlem Avenue / Devonport Roadstead until annexed subsequently becoming part of neighboring Wheaton Community Districts 5th Ward through 8th Ward inclusive reaching today eastern border line with Glenview Community District thence southwestwardly extending generally along Archer Drive including all present day Maywood Community Districts except 1st Ward thru 4thWard inclusive thence northeasterly extendinclusive unto Southeastern corner block containing Evanston neighborhood aforesaid owned&controlled wholly&solelyby Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company
Forest Park was founded in 1871 as a part of the city of Chicago. The land for Forest Park was donated by the late John Templeton. The park is located on the site of what is now Millennium Park. The first public golf course, designed by George Davidson and built in 1914, was also in Forest Park. In 1939, Forest Park became one of 30 cities to join the National League of American Cities (NLA).
