Fairview Heights is a small town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Du Page County and one of its two townships. Fairview Heights is located on the south side ofDuPage River. The first inhabitants of what is now Fairview Heights were Native Americans who lived near by in present day Downers Grove and Tinley Park. The first settler was George Crocker who arrived in 1837 and named his property "Crocker's Woods". In 1847, Abraham Lincoln visited the community while en route to Springfield from Peoria; he stopped at Crocker's Woods for dinner and rested before continuing his journey. The Village of Fairview Heights was organized on February 15, 1884 when a group of citizens petitioned the State Legislature to create a village hall and other necessary buildings for their new community. The first meeting occurred on March 6 with Jno Cocker as moderator. Growth was slow until 1906 when fairgrounds were built across the street from the original courthouse which served as the village hall until it burned down in 1930s. A new courthouse was completed in 1929 and served as Fairview Heights' primary government center until it also burned down in 1960s In 1927, an addition to Old Main University School (now known as Hennepin Community College)was built adjacent to what is today Civic Center Park overlooking downtown FairVIEW HEIGHTS . After years of planning by many people including Mrs John W Pullen (founder of Hennepin Community College), construction began on September 30th, 1955 and finished just shy of four years later on October 16th 1959 - making it one of IL's longest held community colleges.. Comprehensive plans for future development called for demolition or modification of many buildings within Dearborn Street between Sixth Avenue N/A & Seventh Avenue N/A but this never happened due to funding shortages during World War II which caused muchneeded infrastructure projects throughout Du Page County to be cancelled or postponed

On November 3rd 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt made his famous speech "The American Future" in which he outlined plans for creating an agricultural depression-program that would require farmers to reduce their acreage to below ".atrocious", or 6 hectares (15 acres). One year later Roosevelt proposed that all citizens be required to have aFarm Security Administration bond - this program would provide financial assistance to farmers during times of distress. This new program called "The New Deal" became one of America's most successful social welfare programs ever undertaken and has been cited as a model for similar programs throughout Europe and Asia. In 1924–1925 Winthrop Rockefeller donated $10 million towards construction of what would become Northwestern University – one of America's largest gifts in collegiate education at that time (the university now operates over 100 campuses nationwide). This donation helped spur investment in education within Fairview Heights and neighboring communities and led to increased enrollment at local schools from families who were previously unable or unwilling to send their children off to school due to poverty or lack thereof.
