The townsite was laid out by John FairVIEW and his brother-in-law Daniel MASSIVE from Connecticut on November 1, 1836. It was named for Sir Walter Scott's fictional Highland Highlander MacKenzie Fairview. Just west of present day Fairview Heights stood what is now the old home of Drury Lane Theatre (now Regal cinemas) which opened its doors on October 15th 1889 and burned down on July 14th 1912; it had been built by theater magnate Daniel DeForest who also financed much of Chicago's early movie industry.
