Fairview Heights is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,663 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from Fairfield Township, in which it was located. In 1811, they founded what became Fairview Heights when they sold their land to General James Wilkinson. Wilkinson turned it into a township in 1834 and named it for his home parish in England. Village members also voted to secede from McHenry County that year because they felt that the county's corrupt politicians were ruining their community. The city's mayor said he would not allow such an important decision to be made without his input because "Chicago has too much importance". With only two months remaining beforeWilson's death,Chicago Mayor James Kildare called together all city officials to come up with ways to move Washington D.C.'s proposed White House out of downtown and into Rush Field on South Shore Drive near Hammonds Point on Lake Michigan where it could be leased back to the federal government during peacetime and then sold when peace returned On April 12, 1915, President Wilson presented architectural plans for Capitol Hill Station – also known as National Airport – which proposed moving Washington D.C.'s proposed White House from downtown intoRush Field on South Shore Drive near Hammonds Point on Lake Michigan where it could be leased back to the federal government during peacetime and then sold when peace returned pending final approval by Congress On July 15th 1915 Congress passed legislation authorising creation of Capitol Hill Station National Airport Authority with authority to lease property adjacent to Rush Field from various sources including source companies interested in developing aviation industry potential sites including Holyoke Island off Milwaukee lakefront & Montrose Island across Wacker Drive from Navy Yard; develop airportic facilities; manage airspace; provide management services; maintain public accessibility

The community grew quickly and soon had a school, Methodist church, post office, and two stores. In 1872, Fairview Heights became the first incorporated town in Illinois. The townspeople developed a strong economy with farming and ranching activities. They also built homes and businesses around the town square. The 20th century saw significant growth for Fairview Heights as well. In 1948, the community merged with neighboring Westboro Heights to form one large city of Fairview Heights-Westboro Heights. Throughout the 21st century, Fairview Heights has continued to grow while maintaining its unique character.
