Fairview Heights is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Fairview Heights was organized on February 14, 1909 from parts of the Township of South Holland and portions of the Townships of Harding and Arlington. The first home in Fairview Heights was built by Mrs. Lillie Pemberton on what is now Elm Street. In 1911, Addison Withers donated land to form a shopping district which became known as "Fairview Heights Square." On March 2, 1916, Mayor George Fenton hatched a plan to annex all or most of south suburban Cook County into theVillage and rename it "Fairview Heights." The annexation proposal met with resistance from some residents who felt they had been betrayed by their elected officials; however, on April 15th Mayor Fenton announced that he would not pursue annexation because "it would be an expensive proposition and there would be no assured result." In 1951-1952 when Kane County annexed much more southern Cook County - including Downers Grove - Fairview Heights voted to secede from Kane County and become its own municipality again under local government laws passed then. On November 5th 1959 voters approved incorporation as a village once again with 1,839 residents voting in favor (of a total population of over 18K). Incorporation took place on December 12th 1959 with formal ceremonies held at City Hall attended by then-mayor Richard J. Meeks and future mayors Dick Costello (1977-1981) and Susan Buehler (2002-2005). The Village's first mayor was Norris Henson who served for two terms starting on January 1st 1960 until his resignation effective June 30th 1961 due to health reasons. His successor was Angelo Siciliano who served for four terms starting on January 1st 1962 until his retirement effective December 31st 1966 due to death from cancer before he could take office! Finally incumbent Angelo Siciliano'S term ended abruptly due to ill health on October 3rd 1971 after serving for six years! Freda Kappen served as acting mayor during this time period pending election results that were never released! Today's Mayor is Rick Zaniewski who hasserved since January 1st 2017

Fairview Heights is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,165 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Illinois and the fifth most populous city in Chicago. The first settlers to Fairview Heights were three brothers who arrived from Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1847. They named their new community after Fairview Township, where they lived. In 1868, the town of Fairview Heights merged with what was then known as Cicero Township to form the current location of Fairview Heights. The name has been variously spelled "Faire View," "Fairsville," and "Farragut." In 1871, two years after merger, Mayor John Larkin proposed that all of Cicero Township be annexed into Fairview Heights so that it would have a single governing body for both townships. The proposal passed unanimously and on April 12th of that year the annexation became effective. The population of Fairview Heights rapidly grew during its early years; by 1900 it had reached 1,500 residents and by 1910 it had reached 4,000 residents. During World War I, many businesses closed due to wartime rationing which led to a decrease in business activity overall but also increased housing demand as people sought refuge from combat areas. By 1923-1924 there were over 10 thousand residents living inFairview Heights proper and 5200 more living in annexations surrounding it. Growth continued through the Great Depression until 1945 when Quitman Street was widened and renamed Pulaski Road leading into downtown Chicago completed making Clearlake Avenue obsolete as an arterial road running west-southwest out of town (the original routing for Pulaski Road). Afterwards growth slowed until finally reaching its peak around 2000 when Memphis Boulevard connectedthe eastern edge oftown with downtownChicago via a bypass street system connecting east-west streets withintown limits instead of keeping them separate like they used to be].
