Fairview Heights is a town in St. Clair County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Fairview Heights has been a part of the DuPage County government since 1836 and was incorporated as a village in 1892. The first settler in what would become Fairview Heights was Issac Watts, who arrived on October 15, 1829. Watts had married Sarah Morrill and together they built a log cabin on the current site of Fairview High School just north of Illinois Route 20. In 1830, Isaac and Sarah's son Samuel also settled in what became FairVIEW HEIGHTS and purchased from John Eaton some land east of US-40 for $100 In 1831, Amos Kelley arrived with his family from Delaware Township in New York State (now Niagara Falls). He donated property to the town which included present day Green Street and he named it "Kelleyown". The first school building was erected here in 1835 by Joel Chandler Harris with funds provided by Amos Kelley. A portion of what is now Kimberly Drive was laid out as streetscape around this time including Elmwood Place (later renamed Park Avenue), Maple Road/Butterfly Lane (later renamed First Avenue), Ridge Road/Springdale Boulevard (later renamed Central Avenue), Indian Pool Road/Downtown Drive (now called North Side Drive), Cumberland Street/Lake Shore Boulevard (now called South Side Drive) and finally Amsterdam Court/Providence Road which served as both an alleyway between neighborhoods and formal appearance only until 1939 when it became known simply as "Street" In 1836, Josephine Yates moved to FairVIEW HEIGHTS from Herkimer County after her husband died less than two years prior there while serving in the U.S. Senate under President Andrew Johnson She founded "The Ladies' Home Journal" magazine here before moving back to Herkimer County later that year . In 1840 she married John Hesseltine Sr., owner of Hesseltine Lumber & Paper Company located on today's Northwest Side . Together they founded Hesseltine Confectionery Company with stores throughout Chicagoland before dying suddenly at age 67 shortly after its incorporation . Today their businesses are still headquartered withinFairVIEW HEIGHTS limits
