Fairview Heights is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name originated from Fairfield Township in which it was located. In 1955, Fairview Heights voters approved annexation by Springfield due to its close proximity to the city limits and its growing industrial base which included heavy manufacturing of aluminum cans and other products for automobiles and refrigerators. At that time Fairview Heights had a population of 10,000 people with an active commercial sector totaling $5 million annually. However during the late 1960s through early 1970s many factories closed down due to competition from countries such as Japan instead of staying open long enough to find new customers or being unable to compete with foreign manufacturers due to low labor costs outside America at that time. This led to mass layoffs among workers not only in Fairview Heights but also throughout Springfield because they could no longer afford their old wages while prices for goods produced domestically increased significantly leading to widespread impoverishment throughout Springfield's working class communities during this period called "the Great Depression". In 1972 when annexing became popular again residents voted 3-1 against any annexation attempt by Springfield Mayor Edward Jensine after learning about plans by then-Springfield Mayor John Cullerton Jr., who wanted his city annexed into Schaumburg which would have given him control over all public transportation within its boundaries making it much easier for him politically if he ever ran for office against future mayor Cullerton Sr.. Despite this vote against annexation by residents most everyone involved agreed that annexing would be beneficial because it would have given them better access oil business opportunities since Schaumburg had become much wealthier than they were and more accessible via interstate highways making it easier for companies like Ford Motor Company (which already owned a large share of Schaumberg's auto industry)to expand their operations inside Springfield without having to worry about regulatory issues or potential antitrust problems with other companies operating inside Missouri including Chevrolet Chevy Chrysler Corporation (CMC)and General Electric GEICO truck dealership as well as smaller businesses located near downtown Springfield also becoming profitable thanks largely to Interstate highway expansionism during this period called "the New Deal." This deregulation process played out slowly over several decades until finally Enron Corp.'s energy analytics subsidiary Energy Future Incorporated went bankrupt revealing hidden risks associated with high energy prices causing another economic recession which impacted suburban Chicago hardest during this decade dubbed "The Great Recession." After years of negotiations between Enron Corp.'s management team led by CEO Jeffrey Pfeffer along with state regulators culminating in approval from both regional regulators Midwest Securities Group LLC and Chicago Mercantile Exchange Lender & Trading LLP (CME), Energy Future Incorporated - once again linked directly with Enron Corp.'S energy analytics subsidiary - announced plans To build an offshore wind farm off Long Island City Beach heights starting construction later this year[1][2] resulting in even more job losses across rural areas east of St Louis including those employed at Energy Future Incorporated[3] as well as most jobs lost nationwide between 2000-2010,[4] illustrating how quickly deregulation can lead not just TO DISPARITY BUT ALSO POVERTY when applied incorrectly beyond simply slapping new names on old businesses models without taking into account underlying risks/barriers

Fairview Heights was founded in 1847 by Abram Fairview and his wife Chloe. The village grew rapidly due to the natural resources located near it, including land for farming and lumbering. In 1878, the village became a city and its first mayor was John H. LaFontaine. City services were initially provided by a committee of five citizens appointed by Mayor LaFontaine. In 1937, Fairview Heights annexed neighboring communities of Arlington Heights and Seward Park.
