Evergreen Park is a small city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is the second most populous city in Chicago after the city of Chicago and has a population of over 100,000. The region around Evergreen Park was originally part of the town of North Elgin, located about twelve miles north of Chicago on the then-new Erie Canal. In 1836, local farmers petitioned Congress to annex what are now Cook County and set aside land for a new township in which they would be offered one vote each. On February 13th, 1837,Congress annexed Evergreen Park into Cook County as its fourth municipality. The first village in Cook County was Pilsen on the south side of the Great Lakes; it merged with South Side Village on January 1st, 1847. The incorporation process for Evergreen Park began on October 15th, 1889 with a meeting at Elmhurst Masonic Temple where residents voted by ballot to incorporate as an independent City. Evergreen Park is a neighborhood located in the city of Chicago, Illinois. The community covers an area of 1,020 acres and has a population of over 25,000 residents. It is bordered by the West Side on the north, Midway Gardens on the east, Dearborn Avenue on the south, and Michigan Avenue on the west. The name "Evergreen" comes from two locations within Evergreen Park – Evergreen Meadows and Evergreen Lake. The first location was a small meadow near Kedzie Boulevard and Fullerton Road. In 1892, buyers of property within the park bought land to create what is now known as Evergreen Meadows. The second site was located adjacent to present-day Michigan Avenue and Fullerton Road. When it was first developed, Evergreen Lake attracted wealthy citizens who were interested in enjoying beautiful views while residing in one of Chicago's most affluent neighborhoods. Today's lakefront properties were also purchased by people who desired to preserve their privacy or use them for other purposes such as leisure or business ventures. In 1906, Mayor John Puskar designated part of Evergreen Park as a recreational area which included land between Kedzie Boulevard and North Lawndale Avenue. This area became known as Midway Gardens after its annexation into ever green park in 1912). In 1916 representatives from several blocks within eastern Harlem organized themselves into a group called "The NAACP" with the goal of improving race relations in Chicago through education and demonstrations (the organization still exists today). On July 4th 1916 African American women staged a peaceful protest at Wrigley Field against discrimination they experienced at home (the event that led to America's first black president being elected). That same year white women also participated in an afternoon protest outside Cook County Hall challenging local government practices including paying male employees less than female employees; this event is also considered to be National Women's Day today.). In 1919 announcements began circulating through newspapers about plans for what would become known as 'Everest', an artificial hillock located near 47th Street and State Street that would provide stimulation for children living below poverty lines (at that time social welfare benefits were not available to individuals earning over $5 per hour). By 1922 over 50 businesses had agreed to participate in 'Everest' with activities ranging from picnics to theatrical performances (including shows like vaudeville) being held each week throughout summertime until snowstorms forced cancellation or too much crowding indoors during winter months; this program helped improve morale among Lower Middle Class residents who often felt isolated due to lack of resources or access To quality public services outside their homes.. An article published in 1933 regarding Everetts development reads "There are some people who claim that high altitude leads inevitably to tuberculosis because there is no oxygen available at these altitudes... however I have been able to show conclusively that there are no cases recorded anywhere where high altitude has caused tuberculosis." It wasn't until shortly before World War II when reports started surfacing about potential problems with lead poisoning from children playing near military bomb sites across Illinois that attention began focused towards EVERGREEN PARK specifically; tests conducted duringWWII revealed levels higher than those found inside cities limits! Ultimately only three children were identified with lead poisoning from exposure at various military sites across Illinois resulting in their disqualification from service- completely contradicting claims made by some earlier researchers! Evergreen Park is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,713 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Evergreen Park were farmers and their families who arrived here during the early 1800s. They developed a small farmstead that still stands today and farmed until 1870 when they sold their land to the Chicago Board of Education for use as public school land. In 1881, the name "Evergreen" was given to a woodlot on East 59th Street by Dr. John Cropsey after his family's tree from which he had collected sap for teas while attending Harvard University. In 1896, Mayor Nicholas Murray requested that all schools in Cook County be moved to new sites in Skokie and Woodridge due to overcrowding on old site locations near downtown Chicago. The board agreed to move Evergreen Park Elementary School to its current location on North Avenue in 1901 and then added Guaranteed Educational Opportunities (GEO) High School in 1907 which served students from grades 7-12. In 1909, baseball pioneer Harry Breitenbach donated $10,000 towards construction of an illuminated ballpark which would become known as Wrigley Field; it opened in 1916 with games played at home plate behind the old high school building (now known as OnetrueHomes). After World War II ended there were few jobs available for people living within walking distance of Wrigley Field so residents voted on November 3, 1946 to make their town independent fromChicago and form its own government with a mayor/council system instead of having one citywide body like Chicago did previously. At this time Evergreen Park had a population of 11 people! The first ever election held under this new government was held on November 3rd and William Kempton won reelection with 60% of the vote! He would serve until his death in 1951 when Edward Joffe took office! Joffe would serve until 1966 when Richard Murnane became Mayor! Under Murnane Evergreen Park experienced rapid growth becoming one of Illinois' fastest growing towns! Xavier Buono became Municipal Judge for Evergreen Park effective January 1st 1999 replacing retiring Judge Rick Greenstein who had been elected Secretary Of State earlier that year! Buono would serve until his retirement effective October 31st 2006 leaving open the seat currently held by Deborah Ladd since 2007! He will be missed greatly!!
