It amalgamated with other towns in the village of West Pullman to form Evergreen Park on April 1, 1917. The town has been home to many famous people over its history including Chaim Weizmann, Abraham Lincoln and Harry S Truman. Today EverGreen Park continues to be an important community with strong cultural ties to Chicago as well as economic opportunities for residents within walking distance of many businesses and services.

In 2007, Evergreen Park passed a resolution calling for Mayor Rahm Emanuel to repeal zoning regulations that limited apartment construction in central business districts such as downtown or South Side neighborhoods which were being negatively impacted by high levels of gentrification within their boundaries. The rapid growth within Evergreen Park has caused some environmental concerns; for example there have been complaints about leaving areas where wildflowers grow undeveloped while developers build towering skyscrapers with little regard for nature or public access thereto. Additionally, plans to re-zone much of north-central Cook County into higher density housing values has led to concern about displacement of low-income residents who live near transit stops and other amenities that would be lost should their neighborhood become more expensive and exclusive than before.
