Evergreen Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 31,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1864 by Captain John Lawrence and his wife Sally as a small village on the banks of the Chicago River between what are now Evergreen Park and North Lawndale. The name may be derived from "Everest" (the peak of Mount Everest), or from "Oak Lawn", which had been one of the original towns in Cook County. Lawrence named it after his home country of Scotland; but this became an Americanized version of "Lawrenceburg". In 1870, Colonel George Mercer donated land to make up the present site of Evergreen Park. At that time it was still primarily rural although there were some buildings on Prairie Avenue dating back to 1868. In 1870-71, Everett Payson created an Extension Service for mail Delivery at Aurora and Dearborn Streets with six vehicles called Ford's Horsemen carrying letters and parcels between those two cities; theseivery routes continued until 1978 when they were replaced by buses. In 1872-73, Drury Lane Presbyterian Church began construction on its first building – now known as Lincoln Park– on what is now just north of State Street in Evergreen Park Village. Reverend James Aiken organized a Sunday School class for girls in 1876 and Classes met inside Drury Lane until 1903 when they moved to their current location on West Side Drive east of Northwest Highway. Many famous people have attended services at Drury Lane including Abraham Lincoln, Steven Spielberg, Franklin D Roosevelt and Jackie Kennedy Onassis among others... Mrs Smith’s Nursery opened its doors to children aged six months through eighteen years old on October 12th 1889 with instruction by Miss Beattie... This well-known nursery has since grown into one of Chicagoland’s largest daycare providers helping more than 8500 kids each year! Evergreen Park is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,528 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Evergreen Park was founded in 1871 by farmers who moved from rural Indiana to form a trading post on the western edge of what is now Chicago. The first store and post office were built in 1872; both were destroyed by fire in 1876. The town's first school was established in 1875 and soon became one of the most popular locations for public education in South Side Chicago because it offered a free education to all its students. In 1877, Evergreen Park incorporated as a village; it had a population of just over 100 people. In 1889, when South Side Chicago became an organized city through the merger of several small towns on the South Side with Illinois statehood, Evergreen Park became one of its wards and lost its status as a village. In 1925, however, after another merger that increased the size of Chicago's city government and made Evergreen Park one of its thirty-six wards (making it one of only two towns located within Cook County), Evergreen Park regained its village status under new zoning regulations that excluded businesses from being located near schools or other important civic functions. The first movie theater opened in Evergreen Lake Hall on Wabash Avenue in 1927 (the same year that Paramount Pictures made their debut). By 1941 there were twenty-four theaters serving suburban areas surroundingChicago while downtown Chicago boasted eight theaters including Regal Cinemas which had opened two years earlier along Michigan Ave., making it America's second largest movie district after New York City own Times Square. With more than 2 million admissions per year by 1950 alone (and more than 3 million annually by 1960), Hollywood had finally arrived to Blackhawks Stadium where ever since "The Godfather" started playing on December 17th 1951EverGreenPark has been known as "Hollywood North".

Rockefeller, one of the founders of Standard Oil. The original village had only about 100 residents and was built mainly to support the nearby factory where Rockefeller's oil business was conducted. In 1876, Evergreen Park became a city and experienced rapid growth. By 1925, it had reached its current size with over 1,500 residents. In 1955, when Evergreen Park became an incorporated town, it adopted a new name: Glencoe Village.
