Evergreen Park was founded in 1864 as a small village in the Township of Chicago. The Village of Evergreen Park became a City on April 4, 1889. On November 1, 1912, the City of Chicago merged with Cook County to become the Illinois state government. The City of Chicago lost its charter on December 15, 1952 and withdrew from the city government.
