In 1916, the Indiana General Assembly passed a bill to change the name of Cicero Township to Evergreen Park. On November 16th, 1916, President Wilson signed into law the bill changing the name to Evergreen Park. In 1835, following Indian Wars fought by American troops against Native American tribes across much of North America, Congress repealed all reservations in Illinois except for a smallpox-infected reservation at Rock Island near Joliette, which became Cook County in 1847. The Village Act (1865) created a public school district which included Evergreen Park; after several years of meetings and hearings about possible locations for a school district headquarters, commissioners decided on site at what is now Northwest Side Avenue and LaSalle Street within the limits set by deed from John Kirby to Simon Cameron fromage property eastward to First National Bank building eastward along Clarkston Avenue between Pulaski Road and Ravenswood Avenue (now Laramie Road). Construction began on December 1st 1865 withpletion reported two weeks later on January 7th 1966 after an expenditure of $2 million dollars over six years plus an additional $4 million spent since construction started on July 1st 1945 due to World War II boomlet effects across parts of Illinois including Evergreen Park which had been exempted from wartime production quotas while other municipalities were impacted including downtown Chicago by military mobilization efforts resulting in more than doubling in population size accompanied by job growth opportunities especially along Northwestern University campus with thousands new housing units being built right next door only some 25 miles away if one took into account truck traffic patterns connecting Chicago with Milwaukee through Racine/Waukesha Counties during those days
