Evergreen Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 38,468 at the 2010 census. It was chartered in 1868 and named for Evergreen Hill, in east London. The city is bounded by the Chicago River on the north, Pulaski Road on the east, Northern Avenue on the south (the border of Cook County), and Cicero Avenue to the west. The downtown area includes two blocks of State Street between Randolph and Dearborn Streets as well as most of Randolph Street between Michigan and Clark Streets. The first settler in Evergreen Park was Amos Kendall who platted what is now Elmhurst village in 1867. In 1870 Edward Everett Hale bought from Kendall land that included part of today's Evergreen Park Village. He renamed it Hale Heights after his home state of Massachusetts. Another early settler was John Pecora who arrived in 1872 from Lynnfield, Massachusetts with his family and built a cabin known as "Pecora's Grove." In 1875 Jno Pritchard purchased land contiguous with what is today Evergreen Park village from Edward Hale for $5 per acre and called it Montrose Pointe because he saw a spruce tree grow thereabouts. By 1886 all these lands had been developed into the current areas that make up Evergreen Park Village; Griggs Pointe to the north; Kane Heights to the northeast; Villageswest to the southwest; Lake View Terrace to the southeast; Hyde Park to the northwest; and Winnetka Glen ultimately reaching its present-day limits within Northwest Side boundaries about 2000 years ago today! Everett Hale donated land comprising much of what are now Griggs Pointe yards east of Douglas Road then along Douglas Road itself until just before it crossed over into unincorporated Cook County near Griggs Pointe Woods became part of Westchester Township on April 1st 1900 when Jane Addams organized Chicago Township with her own donation ! On November 16th 1865 Abraham Lincoln signed an order appointing John NevinEyewitness Accounter at Ford’s Theatre which ordered Ulysses S Grant’s Theater Manager George Alfred Hodges “to cause all stagehands employed at His Majestic Theatre not hereafter working without special leave or discharge at short notice either by causing them immediately to leave their places or offering them compensation for such inconvenience” For this purpose John Capps was appointed Acting Stage Manager which continued until Mr Hodges assumed management himself less than one week later when he resigned due to family responsibilities On March 3rd 1888 Henry Moseley succeeded Mr Capps as Acting Stage Manager Thereafter he remained acting manager until December 15th 1889 when Joseph Fenton took over For nearly twenty years during which time no other person ever held that position except for three periods during World War II When Harry Godfrey became Manager effective January 1st 1946 following Mr Fenton’s retirement From 1948 through 1954 Mrs Gertrude Stein managed production aspects Of The Theatre Under General Manager Harry Goldmark After her death On October 12th 1955 Frank Borzage becamemanager Effective January 1st 1956 Following Mrs Stein's death On February 14th 1957 Don Ameche becameManager effective July 1st 1958 With Don Ameche becoming manager objection began against him because he wantedTo allow black actors To Play White Characters In Some Shows Which Was A Protest Against Racial Discrimination At That Time African Americans Were Not Allowed To Perform In Public Places Without prior permission Of white people
