Evergreen Park, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is part of Chicago. The name of the town comes from Evergreen Park Reserve, an estate located in the heart of the city that served as a model for many North Side neighborhoods to follow. Evergreen Park was platted on April 12, 1871 by commissioners John P. Hennepin and Jno. Ayer with land bought from the Oswego Company and given to them in exchange for their promise not to build any other towns within six miles of Chicago until they had built one themselves. The name "Evergreen" came about because it was thought that trees growing there would give rise to greenish-white snow during wintertime. The first store opened in 1875 at 31st Street and Cicero Avenue; this store became known as "The Grocery Store." In 1876, the first school opened in Evergreen Park School House at 33rd Street and Pulaski Road (now Roosevelt Rd.). In 1886, a post office was established at Evergreen Park and named after Drs. Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail. That same year also saw the opening of South Side Gaslight Company #1 across from what is now Wrigley Field on Dearborn Ave., which remains operational today asSouth Side Powerball Nightclub & Diner (www".southsidegaslightcompany1"). In 1895, four blocks north of South Side Gaslight Company on West Englewood Ave., two stores called "The Crystal Palace" were open: one operated by James Mulligan ('95) and his brother Joseph ('96), both owners/managers of Pabst Brewing Co.; while another business operated by Harry Smith ('96) called The Herbalist shop; both businesses remain open today as Herbal Arts Emporium & Grocery (www".herbalartsemporiumandgrocery"). On November 15th 1895 - only three weeks shy of its 100th anniversary - South Side Gaslight Company #2 went out into business with its very own light switch! This innovation allowed businesses throughout Chicago to have their own lights without having to rely on neighbors' yards turning up dark every time they turned on their porch light or windows being lit up when they went outside - thus making life much easier for everyone involved! Evergreen Park, Ill. is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,792 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Chicago after Chicago Heights. It is also the third-largest city in Illinois behind Springfield and Champaign–Urbana. The name "Evergreen" comes from an old name for the Everlasting Tree which grew on a farm near present day Evergreen Park. The land that would become Evergreen Park was first settled by migrants from Germany in 1837. Growth resumed during the 1850s as many Germans moved westward to escape political unrest in their homeland. In 1857, Congress passed a bill creating Johnson Township and setting out its boundaries: east of State Road 58 (later I-80), north of La Salle Avenue (now Lake Shore Drive), and west of Wabash Avenue (now Cicero Avenue). As Johnson Township developed, some landowners decided to set aside 1/4 acre parcels for public use each year--a practice known as "timing the market." This system encouraged economic development by allowing businesses to succeed where others had failed; it also helped keep prices low while encouraging farming and manufacturing within town limits. By 1860, there were ten businesses operating within one mile of downtown Evergreen Park proper! In 1865, Mayor John Pritzker ordered surveyors to begin compiling plans for what would eventually become Evergreen Park Cemetery; this led to increased development around Whitehall Road since burials could be held more easily near commercial areas. Streets like Dearborn Street and North Glenwood Avenue were built specifically for cemetery usage with mansions becoming available along these streets during this time frame too – evidence that wealthier residents wanted access to sepulchral space closer to home rather than have their burial costs borne by taxpayers elsewhere. By 1876 when Johnson Township went bankrupt due largely to high construction costs associated with expanding into new territory plus an overabundance of cashmere woolen millinery exports caused by centralization within America due thereafter by foreign powers such as Russia and Austria following Ulysses S Grant’s Presidency—evergreens once again flourished throughout all of Cook County! During World War II efforts were made towards developingEvergreen Park into an urban center with various programs such as housing production through government subsidies or partnerships with private developers being instituted but all these ideas ultimately fell through because Chicago became too busy wartimering war effort instead
Evergreen Park was founded in 1839 by the Reverend Amos Alonzo St. John and his wife, Susannah Whitman. The first settler in Evergreen Park was Levi Lincoln, who arrived in 1837. The park grew rapidly after it was designated as a public land reserve in 1858. In 1865, the United States Congress passed an act providing for the creation of a national forest in Illinois. This provided new opportunities for agricultural development within Evergreen Park. The park also became popular with Chicagoans for its many parks and playgrounds.
