The city was named after Evergreen forest near Chicago. The first settler in what is now Evergreen Park was John Prentice in 1837. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln made his famous address from the steps of the Soldiers' and Sailors Monument in which he called for "a new national greatness" and asked for donations to help finance it. Evergreen Park became a city on April 15, 1907 when its charterWas granted by Cook County voters. It was officially incorporated on November 12 of that year as a result of a referendum held by citizens of all wards within the city limits. In 1912, an airfield and main post office were built at Evergreen Park South; it served as both until 1945 when it closed due to World War II bombing raids by American bombers (the first time this had occurred in Illinois). On November 3, 1943 Mayor James Byrnes signed into law legislation creating Air Force One Base adjacent to Evergreen Park North – one of America's largest military installations ever created; later renamed First National Airport outside Washington D.C., today home to some 50 airlines and 25 million passengers annually The parkland east of Lake Shore Road between 95th Street and Irving Road has been used for public golf courses since 1887 while most recent development takes place along South Archer Avenue between Cicero Avenue and Michigan Avenue with high-rise apartments looming over much of the area east of Ivar Drive (formerly Archerwood), including several blocks south across Cicero Avenue from where Ivar lives today

Evergreen Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,287 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community was founded on April 12, 1847 by Rev. George Washington Morrison and his wife Esther Moody Morrison (née Evergreen), two women who had emigrated from Scotland to America. The Morrians were among the first white settlers in what is now Evergreen Park. They named their new community after a small park near Edinburgh, Scotland where they had visited as children. Evergreen Park borders the city of Chicago to the north and west and Palatine Township to the east and south; it also has a shared border with River Forest to its southwest. The name "Evergreen" was chosen because of its resemblance to trees in Scotland where they had been brought up. The first post office in Evergreen Park was established on December 24, 1851; it was renamed Hinsdale on January 14, 1857 when that township became part of Cook County. In 1870-71, an extension line from Oak Lawn to Aurora was built by the Illinois Central Railroad through what is now middle school across from Lake Michigan Boulevard; this line remains one of the most heavily used commuter lines in northern Illinois today. In 1930-31, construction began on a new expressway known as Loop Drive which would have linked North Side streets directly with I-90 southbound within Evergreen Park boundaries; however, this project failed due to heavy opposition from local residents who saw it as another example of how Chicago annexing their smaller towns without consent or compensation. In 1935-36, work began on what would become Elmhurst Road which would connect South Side streets directly with I-294 northbound within Ever green Park boundaries; however again this project failed due to fierce opposition from local residents who saw it as another example of how Chicago annexing their smaller towns without consent or compensation . Finally in 1941-42 work began on what would become Kedzie Avenue which would connect South Side streets directly with I-290 eastbound within EverGreen Park boundaries; this project succeeded and Kedzie Avenue remain one of only a few roads that run completely through evergreen park today . In 1940s there were also plans for building an airport outside of town but these never materialized either . Today Ever GreenPark has over 6k residents making up nearly 50% percent popoality! Its economy depends mostly off services provided by surrounding municipalities such as schools & healthcare ect ect so hardly any economic activity takes place outside those services! There are no large businesses present here other then small mom and pop stores! Most people here live around farmlands/forestry etc not in big city centers like Chicago!
