It wasn’t until 1907 that an improved steel Safe became available which was called the “Armoury Safe” because it housed Armoury firearms which had been confiscated from various American businesses including Harpers Ferry Arsenal during World War I (the Armory Safe remains today as part of display case inside Northwestern University McCormick Library). The following year saw another breakthrough when Menard Hardware Company opened up shop adjacent to Wabash Avenue just north of State Street with their own armory style safe! This particularsafe became known as “Menard’s Castle” because it contained many Armaments such as revolvers, shotguns etc which had been confiscated from other businesses along Wabash avenue like Sears Roebuck & Co.) It is said that these armories later became known as "Evanston's Ransom House" due to numerous ransom payments being made from individuals or companies seeking access to these weapons! This particular armory style safety remained popular through Prohibition but unfortunately it too eventually succumbed to deterioration over time before finally being replaced by newer models around 1930-1935 inclusive!
