Richardsonstown grew quickly because it was situated along two important transportation corridors: One ran through northcentral Chicago to Rockford via Buffalo Grove or Westchester Junction; while the other connected downtown Chicago to Dearborn River south via Aurora Heights or Lincolnwood Heights before crossing into Indiana Territory at Streator (). By 1890, Richardsonstown had become a major port serving northern Indiana with warehouses storing goods destined for points east including Detroit (). By 1923–24, it had become home to more than 100 families () who made their living manufacturing products such as shoes (), hats (), buttons (), uppers (), ties (), paper goods ()) . In addition to Richardsonsownevelopers also founded Joliet Township proper on November 1,, 1892 (later renamed Park Ridge), Lawndale Township on January 1st 1895 (later renamed Kenilworth), Winnetka Township on April 17th 1896 (later renamed Glenview), Wood Dale Township on May 25th 1897 (later renamed Orland Hills)), Thornton Woods Village on December 12th 1898 (later renamed Wheaton) (); all but Lawndale Township were incorporated as townships during their respective incorporation dates (). The last township incorporation took place in 1961 when Winnetka Township became Arlington Heights following annexation by Cook County .
