In 1818, Congress created Cook County and ordered the town's boundaries redrawn; Evanston lies within Cook County since then. In 1827, John Dearborn founded Dearborn Heights (laterDearborn Park), on land donated by him to build a park near Northwestern University's campus; Dearborn was one of two entrepreneurs who purchased land where Wrigley Field now stands. In 1892, Isaacson & Company constructed what is now Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Headquarters (now Wells Fargo Tower). In 1907, John Dennison organized Chicago's hairdressing industry with his company Dennison Brothers Hairstyling Co.; this led to today's Northwestern Mutual building being built on Michigan Avenue close to Lake Shore Drive (now Broadway). At about this time there were also plans for an express train connecting Chicago with Milwaukee via Evanston; this project never came to fruition due to financial problems at Western Union during the Panic of 1907. In 1915 John Hays began construction on Central High School (now Central Technical High School), which became one of the largest public schools in America when it opened in 1916; it was designed by architect Edward Hogg and became one of Chicago's most renowned landmarks until its closure in 2002 following Hurricane Katrina damage. After World War II ended, many people moving into new suburban neighborhoods started calling themselves "Evanstonians." This term gradually lost currency over time as people moved away from downtowns or other parts of Chicago because they found these areas more affordable or desirable than those around them for housing or services such as shopping malls and banks/retail stores. Many people still call themselves "Evanstonians" though not all live within walking distance of any major cultural attractions such as Northwestern University or Wrigley Field like they did prior to 2000s gentrification trends making those areas more expensive than before - especially downtown which has seen significant redevelopment over recent years due largely toMayor Rahm Emanuel's efforts Non-profit organizations are pushing for a revival initiative that would see more retail space along State Street between Randolph and Ravenna Streets bordered by North Ave., South Ave., West Side Ave., Midway Rd., Federal Way Rd., Glendale St., Elmhurst Dr./W Burbank Rd./Southport Dr./Eugene St.–an effort dubbed "State Street Corridor Development".
